Well there is no shortage of boats with rods being left in them, including mine. Many boats got hit this weekend on Rayburn. Thought I was safe, thought no one would be brazen enough to steal that close to the door. I was wrong. Just wanted to let y'all know. I would suggest leaving your cover off and rod lockers unlocked, when staying at Rayburn or Toledo.
We need to set up a fund or reward to for anyone who catches these thieves stealing rods or tackle.

After all the posts in the past few weeks about the only safe place being in your room, you still left your stuff in the boat? By the way, where bouts on Rayburn? A couple of years ago they busted some crack heads selling rods and reels along side the road over in Beaumont. You might notify the cops over there. Sorry about your loss.....

That's a shame that one of the best Lake's in the US and you have to unload your boat before you go to bed. I wish someone could come up with a 110 volt shocking sym that looked like a batt charger pluged in. That way when they get in your stuff you would hear there cry for help. Where did you stay? If at Rayburn County did he tell you this is the first time that something like this has ever happened at there place?

Believe me you are talking to a guy that usually removes his rods. I obviously used bad judgement, don't need the should have. Guess I got what I deserve? If I am at any of those other places my rods and tackle are out and in the room. We were at the backlash lodge. And of course we have notified the cops, they had a lead, not sure if they acted on it.

Bryan,
I won't ever bash anyone on the head for leaving equipment in a boat they think is safely locked. Sorry about your loss.
We just need to keep attention on this and keep it fresh on people's mind so they don't make the same mistake.

You are not the first to be broken in there. You won't be the last either. There are a group of crack/meth heads that live in the trailers behind the Texaco Station going towards Casell-Boykins. Probably the same group that set the boat shed on fire in '04. And no, you did not get what you deserved. You ought to be able to leave your stuff on the deck at night, but sadly, there are way too many crack heads and other felons living in the area around Rayburn. One of the local JPs told me a few years ago they like to get rid of their residual waste from the manufacture of meth in the lake at night. It sucks. I saw the Death Wish series on TV over the weekend. I wish some vigilante would start killing a bunch of the scumbags up that way.

I think what we are going to have to do as fisherman is to call a security firm some where in the area and hire a security guard to watch the lot. I know that is sad but if 20 fisherman paid $20 each that is a good nights pay to watch a bunch of boats. I would do it for that kind of money. A off duty officer would like the extra cash. Anyhow just something to think about.

I removed all my rods and tackle from my boat this weekend when I went into the hotel for the night. When I woke up the next morning the lid to my rod box was open. It sucks but I am glad I took the time to remove my stuff.

After every trip, I take my gear in the house, clean and put them on the rack. I love them that much!

I'm not sure I can agree with all the guys who are saying, " I wish some vigilante..." or "...somebody needs to do something." That somebody is YOU! If everybody did something the situation would be different. You guys are talking about pitching in $20 each to hire someone to watch the parking lot. Why? Because there aren't enough cops. What does that tell you? SELF HELP. Set traps for their a__. Cover one rod with a towel full of treble hooks and make sure one hook is in the carpet to snag them. Set a steel jaw trap. I know, I know, the law in Texas is that you may not intentionally harm a trespasser. (some law huh?) But if they want to sue you let them try to find a lawyer who will represent them on such a case. Watch your own stuff. Never leave anything of value where it can just be picked up and walked off with. Presume everyone is out to get your stuff. Do what you can to stop/punish them. If you get hit, follow up on the case with the cops. Push them. Don't just turn it in and disappear. The squeaking wheel gets the grease. Those crack heads have to sell the stuff somewhere. Mark your stuff and push the cops on the progress of your case. Trust me, they ain't gonna' work on it just because it's laying in the active stack.

Have to say around the same as Bristow, that I wont beat a Person for leaving his Equipment in the Boat and having it ripped off. I cant think of anything worse then getting Your Hunting or Fishing stuff taken by some worthless nothings, down in the Pineywoods. But I will try to help You and Everybody else realize that these sorry MoFos down there arent worth 2 Shets and will do anything to steal from Another, just because their sorry Fuks are two f_____ing lazy to do a __ ____ thing!!! The Cops aint gonna do nothing. And the other Jackbags - Fishing that think they can actaully catch 5, are just gonna Laugh and say Your Ignorant for Leaving Stuff in the Boat. So with all this, You gotta take Everything You dont want stolen Out of the Boat and indoors with You.
Its the same everywhere that the only safe Place for any of Your Property is right next to You. I know it takes a little Time, but it sure beats walking out on T Morning and finding Your Boat cover sliced with Everyone of your R&R Combo's(22 Chronarchs, Falcon & Castaway) gone including, Electronics and thinking about those Sorry- MF's smoking it all up. (Toledo 2001)
Sorry about the Rant, but had 13 Car Radios,9 Kats(Caty Conv), and 7 windows busted at the Shop last Night and then seeing another Theft at Rayburn you gotta holler "Uncle" And You know what- $400/ month video survellance, 2 trained Dogs, and 2- 24 Hr hired Security guards cant do F_____ thing... Smart Thieves You got out there.... Believe Me
