Academy may hold this information tight lipped but does anyone know when the next rod riot will be held at Academy? If not when, how often and what times of the year are they usually held? I want to pick up a couple of Falcon rods but I want to wait for the big sale I hear so much about.

Thanks.

I don't know but I was in there the other day and the price of lowriders went from $109 to $129.

I went to the Academy in Plano on 75 last night and I saw that. I also see that their rod selection was pretty low. They only had 3 Crucials, a couple Low Riders and a few of the Falcon Originals.

The guy working behind the counter said to watch in the next 2 weeks for the sale and it will definately be before March 1st. Hoepfully they have a better selection during their sale.

I am wondering the same thing myself. I have heard countless times on this forum to wait for the rod riot at Academy and buy a (...). If they are 25% off or more my wallet will be surely be lighter.

Prices on the cara's jumped 20 to 30 bucks also. Price reduces anywhere from 10 to around 40 bucks depending on the rod price.
example
79.99 to 99.99 would be like 59.99 on sale

i don't think the falcons are going to be priced as low as they used to be. I've seen all the falcon prices go up more than 15% across the board at academy.

Falcon took a pretty healthy, across-the-board, price increase for '09. I've bought a couple of rods since the increase that I wish I'd bought in December...

Glad I got my lizard dragger from Big John in Plano in November for 69.99. Sounds like it's going to be 99 bucks now.

Earlier this year any rod reg from $104 to $149 (if my memory was right) was marked down to $99.

There used to be a guy who repaired/customized rods at Barlows. Anyone know if he still around?

The explanation I got involved oil prices which has a ring of truth to it since graphite is petroleum based but I suspect the sucking sound coming from all the end users of composite materials has something to do with it as well. The precursor to carbon (graphite) fiber is only produced in a handful of plants worldwide (kind of like fluorocarbon extruders) and with Boeing, Airbus, and Lockheed Martin starting up large scale aerospace projects that require large amounts of graphite fabrics I would guess that lowly fisherman are lower on the priority rating.

Oil is $40 a barrel. They need a better excuse.
