I don't disagree with you but I suspect the worldwide demand for carbon fiber has more to do with it than the price of oil.

I think the Falcon rod price increase is more marketing than cost of raw materials. The economy is slow and prices should be coming down. Falcon realizes those Caras are recognized as pretty good rods and may feel they can command a price of $179. Doubt if we'll see them at Academy for $100 anymore.

Oil is $40/ barrel now ... a year to 6 months ago when these rod blank materials were being produce oil was substantially higher! Having said that don't look for prices to go down. I called Falcon about 2 weeks ago and we talked about the price increase and the guy I talked to said it was related directly to materials prices.

I just bought 2 Mike McClelland Heavy Cover Jig rods and a Cara Amistad at the old prices from an Ebay dealer. Got all 3 rods for about $450. His prices just went up $20 a rod this week. Still at $145 a rod it is a good deal. Gotta be resourceful as prices increase. Ebay is the place to shop.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Tell you what, let's make a bet to see just how much the price of these rods is tied to oil.

Since you're claiming that the blanks are made 6-12 months in advance, I'll bet you anything you want that in 6 - 12 months from now, the prices don't come back to where they used to be.

Wanna bet ?

Like I said, oil prices have little to do with the price of those rods. Whoever gave you that line is full of it. If they're not, tell them we expect to see a price decrease since oil is now cheaper than it was a year ago. Bet you'll see some backpedaling then.
