I fished on the 2nd at the dam and hueco springs. Caught 10 or so below the dam on mepps spinner. Went to the lake for bass and got zero. At some pizza hut and hit hueco springs and struggled to catch 1 dink and missed a few more. Most were catching them on cheese.

Any size to those 10 at the dam? Also how easy is it to wade down the river from the dam? With chest high waders.

just size enough to eat with a few thrown back because they were too small. I haven't caught anything with any good size since Sept. when I was catching 12-14" below the dam. Wading VERY easy. There is a deep whole with a fishing area then very shallow just below that most of the water is ankle/knee deep. Go about 400-600 meters and there is a small tree about half way across the river with some rocks faster water and there are some trout hanging out there and another 400 meters or so is a deep whole there that has a large rock bank to stand on.
If you want some trout with size they are having "trout days" this weekend just north of Uvalde at chalk bluff park $5 to fish and sunday they are putting in some "lunkers" 2-5lb trout.

Fished Hueco Springs Camp this afternoon. Ended up with a limit of trout, but had to work hard for it. I was using a small white roostertail fished in the pools around the waterfall area.

Hey everyone.. I'm planning on heading down to Camp Huaco Springs tomorrow to go tent camping for a few days.. I figure I'd test my luck trying to catch a trout or two while I'm there..
I'm still kinda new to fishing and I've never caught a trout, what sort of tackle would you guys recommend?
I have a medium action rod/reel combo spooled on 8lb test.. I figure I could make a quick leader with some of the 6lb spool I have lying around. As far as bait, I was planning on trying the garlic cheese balls, but how big should the bait be? I was planning on using trebles, I'm gonna keep whatever I manage to catch, so what's a good size hook? I heard smaller is better, so I'm guessing 10-14 size?
I've heard other people had good luck on the white rooster tail.. how is that lure fished? Is that a spinner bait that I just cast and retrieve, and what size hook/lure should I go for?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance! If you decide to use roostertail spinners, I'd go with either the 1/16 oz or 1/24 oz size. The smaller the better. I use 4lb test, because I found the lighter the line I use, the better action the spinner has. Also, I'd recommend fishing the rapids, above the waterfall and just below. The trout like to hang out in the little pools, behind rocks and such.

Hatchery trout won't be too good for sashimi. For that matter I would not eat any freshwater fish raw.

...only if you have a saltwater license or a Combo w/saltwater endorsement will you need a freshwater stamp. If you have a combo w/freshwater endorsement, supercombo, allwater or freshwater license, you are set.
