There's going to be a trout release at Canyon Tailrace in New Braunfels this weekend. Has anybody had any luck fishing this area in past years when they've released trout? If so, what lures/baits seem to work. Any information would be helpful.

Here's a link with dates and locations fish will be released if anybody else is interested;

Panther martin inline spinners. 1/16 oz. Back and white spots.
It'll be crowded but it's great fun.

Probably wont be good the day of the stocking. Usually takes a day or 2 to settle.

Get there early, wear waders if you got 'em, or at least rubber boots, that water is cold.

Tried my luck trout fishing on the Guadalupe today, to no avail. I fished at Hueco Springs off of River Road. The water was crystal clear and the scenery was great, but no fish to speak of. I talked to one guy who'd just caught his fourth rainbow trout (all were around 8-10 inches). He was using garlic cheese, balled up, and fished below a weight.

If you missed out on the trout fishing this weekend, I believe they are doing another release next weekend. Here are a few pictures I took. Enjoy.

The water is low, but you can still find some deep pools.

Even if fishing is slow, this is a great place to fish.

I like to fish artificials but I've yet to find one the farm raised trout will hit consistently. My best luck has been on a bait that I make out of velveta and garlic powder. Mix it up by hand, form it into little balls, refrigerate in a plastic baggy. Something about the garlic that draw the trout to it. I guess they can smell it. The velveta is yellow just like the stuff they feed em in the farms.

Fish on......ay

My neighbor was there 12/19/08. He caught his limit. I ended up not having to work after all and find my self with nothing to do. Hum...

Shut up and fish!

Headed out there tomorrow! I was in katy at Peckhman park yesterday and saw some trout getting caught. I also saw a cormorant eating a trout it had caught. The only thing I got was a 15-20lb Koi that ended up breaking me off. That's what I got from using corn.

Tried the trout fishing once more at Hueco Springs on the Guadalupe. Caught three trout, and missed a bunch more. I was using white roostertail spinners above and below the waterfall. Look for the deeper pockets. Enjoy the pics.

Below the waterfall.

Good eats. Yum!!!
