Anyone that thinks that dropping an anchor is a lazy practice needs to go down to the coast and try to set anchor in 80 ft water with incoming tide and wind and end up in the spot you want.

I nearly always use my TM while slabbing for whites. It makes it easier to stay with the fish, and work along the edges of a ridge or hump. Like they have already said, this time of year you need to be able to work your bait slowly to dead sticking them.
Good Luck

I would use my anchor more if I could 1. position the boat in the right place, and 2. if I could get it to stick more than 30% of the time. Man, would have loved to be able to use it last Sat. but I did not want to risk the time for it not to work.

Karl I have a 4 lb. cline anchor from cabellas with 12 ft. of chain. It holds about 95% of the time that I fish. Of course there was no way I would have been fishing last sat. Johnny

That is it. I had 6 ft. and it would hold maybe 50% of the time.So I bought 6 more ft. and it made a huge differance. I like it because it is so easy to pull up. You think about stuff like that when you get old. Johnny

when your fishing with slabs this time of year and windy, do you use your trolling motor to stay in one place? Yes I do, I never anchor, not that there is anything wrong with that The fish move and I stay on top of them with the TM, I can also find them hugging the bottom if it is to windy to use the trolling motor then it is to windy to fish

I use the Trolling motor also John. But many times I can determine with bouys that the fish are running a ridge or circling a hump. It is sometimes very hard to stay up with fish but I anchor up and let the fish come to me. I have seen on many occasions people lose the fish they think and leave. Fish are just on the other side of the hump or the other end of the ridge and they will be back in 4 or 5 minutes.I feel like it is just another way to fish and on many occasions it has worked for me. I did not figure it out by myself. About forty years ago an old sandbass guide by the name of Dan Daniels taught me that. He was quite a novelty he was a sandbass guide. As far as we could tell the only one in the fort worth dallas area at the time. Johnny

A lot of people down size this time of the year. I have often wondered why that is . The shad are at their biggest this time of the year. I fish with the same slab year around but a lot of people go to a smaller slab so there must be something to it. Opinions.???? Johnny

Johnny I downsize my slab in the winter for whites, I just seem to have better luck.I would think it has to do with the water temp and the fish being lethargic. They do not want to exert much energy on a big bait. That is why I think dead sticking plastics for hybrids and stripers works so well. They just ease up to the bait and suck it in but I am not a biologist so in all theories I have no idea what I am talking about I slow roll sassys and swim baits for them to slow , slow , slow but I use 4-5 inch plastics so once again I have no idea
