Quite good Abbey Tripel from Brouwerij Moortgat. Highly recommended and very reasonably priced at Majestic.

In my opinion this beer is a very solid 9 out of 10...

GO TRY IT!

Already tried it, about five years ago...hehehe. Fantastic beer. One of my favorite Belgian Ales.

Interesting mini-story about that beer. Last year, Bret, my dad, and myself spent an overnight session out at Fork. One of the beers we'd brought with us was Maredsous 10, we'd brought several 750ml of it.

Well, as it turned out, only the day before, the most famous "beer nerd" of all time, Michael Jackson ( Not THAT Michael Jackson. ) had passed away. This guy had done more to promote craft beer and good beer in his lifetime then anyone else, and had written many many books on beer in general, on microbrews, on Belgian Ales, and even on good Scotch.

Belgian Ales were one of his favorites, and I believe he was especially fond of Maredsous 10.

So, in honor of him, we poured a glass and had a belgian ale toast.

Also, for those interested, Maredsous 10 is usually available on draft at both the Flying Saucer, and the Gingerman. It's even better poured from a tap.

I had this beer in my "hit" list for quite a while, but my fondness for Allagash Tripel Reserve kept me from trying it.

I still think that the Allagash Tripel Reserve is the standard by which all Abbey Tripels must be measured.

Indeed. I think you should continue researching as much and as often as funds allow...hehehe.

Both are fantastic, but I can tell you which one came first, really is brewed in Belgium...Hint...it's not Allagash, hehehe. ( But they do make great beers! )

Agreed, but I was referring to my personal preference in taste. Both are absolutely awesome, but I prefer Allagash for it's more balanced taste (although it lacks in complexity of flavor.)

Also, a LSCB field-trip to the "Saucer" is in order. :-)

Let's do it! We should try and get a big group of folks, all the beer nerds plus everyone else who's interested in just going and hanging out.
