I'm thinkin this afternoon, if it didn't take so long to get the boat out of the lift.

Mo, is someone throwing crackers off the end of the piers by your house? Had the gulls all wound up, right off the end of the pier next to yours.
Thats my old trick.
No fish under gulls yesterday. But it was a nice afternoon. Didn't get out till 4:15. Maybe someone else got em.

Speaking of crackers. When I was out Thursday afternoon, I buzzed to Brookshires. Nothing moving. Zipped to Airport. Nothing. Zipped to east Chimney. Nothing. Got the binocs out and saw the largest group of feeding gulls I had ever seen over by Shadybrook.
Hauled over there as fast as I could. There must have been 200 gulls working. I eased up made a few casts. Nothing. Thought I might as well get some bait. Eased closer, threw the net a few times. Nothing.
Then this little girl came walking down the pier. "Sir, are you fishing for them stripers?" she asked. "Well, yes I am!!!" I replied.
"Well, you may want to fish somewhere else cause I just threw out some food for the birds!" AAAAHHHHHHHH!!
"Thanks! See you later." I replied as I was cussing under my breath as I trolled away.
That is when I knew it was time to go.

Sunday AM update - didn't see any birds or surface activity from the Horse Farm point south to the dam. Trolled up 10 or so S&H's in Chimney Cheek - 20' Bomber 6ASI's. H's were just under 18". Saw a bunch of small gulls while driving home off the Saline Bay bridge by the 1 tree island. Maybe they have moved into Saline Bay. Y'all check and see - I'm out of pocket for a while. Nice meeting Stripaholic & First Mate - Jeff.

Regarding the post about the guy leaving the spot where they came up--that is the way it goes. That is the problem with the "greener pastures syndrome". I know I have done that too. I saw the birds up on the church side of 155 late Saturday, just before dark, and they were working it hard, with a huge flock on fish. I had been out shooting with the wife, and it was too rough for me to go out uncertain if they would show. See y'all on the water. STEVE T

Went out Saturday morning, picked up the toon from the Villages Marina around 9:00, nice drive to the house, loaded up gear and my friend, headed south toward the dam and never made it past the 155 bridge because of the 3-5 foot swells that had come up! Even on my pontoon boat the water was washing over the front deck. Went west and a little north to the cove on the west side and saw some gulls diving but couldn't hold the boat well enough to fish effectively. By 11:00 the birds were swimming and floating around us using the boat as a wind block! Decided it was just too much fun and went home.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!

There are some kids in our neighborhood that think it is funny to feed the birds and watch the boats come running. ![smile smile](/forums/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif) MO

I would do the same thing. ![loco loco](/forums/images/graemlins/default/pillepalle.gif) Glad I just idled up and figured it out, before I was the joke. Another reason to ease into the birds. ![thumb thumb](/forums/images/graemlins/default/cup.gif)

I know realize there is a difference when all the gulls on the lake are in one area. Stay away! People are waiting to laugh at you.
If there are only 50 or so, not close to any docks, you had better get there.

It should be easy now. I think that the shad should have a die off and that will turn them on again. I will be out as soon as I shake this cold. Sorry you didn't find them today Trump. Later guys. C u on the water. STEVE T
