Who takes their dog on the boat with them? I want to start doing this but I have a Boxer and I don't know how she will handle it. She has a LOT of energy. What do you do if they got to go to the bathroom? Water won't be a problem, but what about shade if they get too hot? BTW, throw in some pics of your fishing buddies.

Took one of my dogs once and he threw up all over the carpet as a puppy. Stopped doing it.

We have 3, I try to take a different one each time, but only one really loves it, so I tend to take him more. He love to swim,so I have to keep an eye out for him slipping off the back of the boat for a quick dip. Also don't take him to lakes with gators!

Started taking my lab about a year ago. She is a couple years old and not a water dog but enjoys the ride. If it gets too hot she lays sort of under the console in the shade. I will wet a towel for her to lay on. As far as the rest room goes... She knows how to hold it pretty well. But I always have her tags and a leash, encase she needs to do her business or the game warden does a boat check. I enjoy the company, I think she feels the same.

I've only had 1 real good fishing dog. He was on the water from the time he was 8 weeks old. After he died, I never found one that was quite the same.

We have a female boston terrier that's nearly 13years old. She has been fishing with us since she was 6 weeks old. She will usually get under the console when it gets too hot for her. As far as using the bathroom she has only done it on the boat a couple of times. Sometimes if we have been out for too long we will usually beach the boat so that she and I can go. I have learned from passed experience that if it's too hot she needs to stay at home. One time I think we got really close to her having a heat stroke. We have a life jacket for her and in the summer months we will put it on her and put her in the water this helps cool them down. Also it's easier to get them back in the boat.

I take my 2 year old, 50 lb mix breed and I started when she was very young. She does not like swimming, but loves to ride -- inside the truck and boat. On the boat I stop about every 2 hours and let her out on the bank to check things out and to enjoy the outdoors too. She lays in the shade of our center console and we wet her down with a bucket if it is hot out. I also slow down since she seems to like it best at about 30 mph and she is not too crazy about rough water -- she leans against our legs when the water is rough rather than with 2 feet on the front deck looking out. She is never in the way -- when we start moving around she moves too. I sit when I fish the front deck and she will be right there with me. We share a snack and it is back to fishing...

She loves being at the camping trailer too!!!

I think that is the key: get them on the boat early and spend the first year training them how to handle it. I didnt do that and my lab and so he is tough to handle while fishing. If we are within 100 yards of shore, he is off swimming around and chasing rabbits, squirels etc.

Don't take 'em when it's real hot!

We have a Pomeranian that loves to go fishing. Once you put your cap on at the house he gets excited. On the boat he lays under the console or under a jacket on the seat. He lets you know if he wants to get in the water because it is hot. He swims around next to the boat and then we put him back in. We take him to the bank at regular intervals to do his thing. He usually goes several hours without any problem. He eats all the same boat snacks we eat. His real thing is any time you set the hook he wants to see you fight the fish and once the fish is in the boat he wants to nip at it and lick it. Then he likes to watch you let it go at the side of the boat. Go figure a Pomeranian that loves water and fishing!!!
