Well maybe I didn't know how to use the zebra midge correctly. I used it on a floating fly line with no weight added, that might of been wrong. I barely moved it, and let it sink, more of a twitch when I did move it. Then later I put it under another fly that was a dry fly on top...I probably could of put longer tippet below the top fly before adding the zebra midge. I do appreciate your experience there, and I am definitely going back! So any hints are appreciated.

Yes, it is very beautiful in the river area, with the mountains in the background. I did notice there seemed to be only one station that was not country music though. That was a bit surprising to me. I will definitely be going back there now and then.

1 foot from the indicator, or hook the fly to your hook holder on the flyrod and put the indicator on the line at the closest first guide. then drop the droppers about 8-15 inches from one another. if your working on one trout that you see, give it a break and let them settle down before presenting your fly 30 times in a row. they dont often see one fly after another...ect. so give the trout a break and let it get into feed mode instead of throwing a fly in its face every 10 seconds.

Oh dang, I didn't even use a fly indicator...I just tied it on the hook. Do you always use a strike indicator for nymphs and midges? I rarely do. Cause if I want to change what I am using, then I have to re-rig it all. I usually also do not use two flies at once, which I know I need to do that more often. I did however use a Madam X, and had the zebra midge under that...but probably not far enough down. I really appreciate this info, as I think it will help me tremendously, and allow me to catch more fish. I can't seem to find a book that tells me all these tidbits, which are really necessary when you think about it. I would prefer a website with it, for free knowledge, but the web is pretty lean on the HOW TO part of how to work a fly. I have found a little bit online, like I said, but very little. I don't know anyone around here but Mike who even fly fishes. He mainly bass fishes with his big flies, and I use smaller flies for various fish. I love trout fishing, and you don't have to have a boat for that.
I love bass fishing too, but I don't always use the big flies, I get back pain after about two hours of using my 8wt. I prefer to use my 5wt. I tried out my son's 6wt fiberglass rod, and it was very nice. BUT, it was even heavier than my 8wt, so no way would I try to use that kind of rod, unless it was a very light glass rod.

i try to maintain at least 9 feet of leader line. when fishing zone one i try to keep the fly line out of the water so i can high stick it. that way there is no drag. then u get a better presentation. the only thing in the water is the top of the indicator and the flys......... if you change flys just pull the indicator off and add more tippit. i always use florocarbon as well at 2.5 lb and 3 lb for streamers and wooly buggers.

Thanks again. Sounds like you have had lots of experience doing this, where as I am very inexperienced with this stuff, but learning. If I took my regular rod and reel with my "trout box"...I feel I could really catch some fish. However this is much more fun when you catch fish on a fly rod. (especially on flies I make myself :-) ......)
My trout box has all kinds of spinning lures etc...trout magnets, small crankbaits... I did very well with that box on the stocked trout over the winter through early spring. But, I want to learn the fine art of fly fishing for fish as well, and it is preferable for me, if I am in an area where I can do it without too many trees, or people in my way...so I can cast. Otherwise I don't mind going conventional. I have mostly fly fished ever since summer started, and I rarely conventional fish anymore, which is very surprising to me.

Yes, addictive is the word.
I have been learning to tie flies. It is not a cheap hobby. I grossly underestimated start up costs. The fifty dollar kit sounded great. Then I found I needed this, and that. Whew. Well now I am in much better shape with material. A little elf from this board has been very kind sending me material to tie with. I have been blessed~!

Well, here is the best pic my son took of me at Broken Bow. The photo shows the loop really well...but not sure you can see it clearly on a smaller pic, so I made it bigger...otherwise I would not post such a large pic. Well this was taken from a disposable camera, I just got them developed. I also have a pic of my son standing in a cold stream, wearing his jeans, he had no waders on. The rest of the pics he took mainly of scenery. Still the place is so pretty...I wish I was back there right now.

Thanks Derik D. I want to tell you that water was brisk...good thing I had waders....hehehe. I may post scenery pics here, if anyone is interested. My son took a few really good shots.

So I guess y'all don't have much to say about the loop. It looks good to me, but don't know what my casting actually compares to. Also the line looks pretty level. I think I am probably just middle of the road. I know I still don't have the distance I want. I need to learn to double haul.
