went fishing saturday and no crappie to be found. Caught 1 all day. I did catch 2 little ones at daylight with a casting net in about 2 feet of water. so where have te crappie gone?

Where were you fishing? What structure?

I was on Granger too Saturday (Mainly camping). I fished for about three hours. I fished timber in the 5'-7' range. I caught two decent fish (12" and 14") about 3'-4' down and one dink. If I would have been serious about fishin' or was going back this weekend, that's the cover and depths I would concentrate on.

I was fishing the usual brushplies. The ones we always catch a lot at all summer....10-15 feet of water. Sooner 1 didnt catch a single 1. We thought it was because they renamed it longhorn and all the fish left.

I believe that most of the crappie have scattered, and not many to be found stacked up on the usual b/p's.
It has got to the time of year where you probably will have better luck by slow trolling in area's where you find a lot of baitfish.
The fish on Granger usually start to scatter by the second week in oct, give or take a week.
I caught a few on b/p's on fri.6-7 keepers, but only managed 3 keepers yesterday.
You will see me with multiple rods out slow trolling next time out!

Yes indeed, trolling for crappie.
I will stick to this pattern until about the second or third week of Feb.,after that they will be slowly moving back to the shallows for spawning,after that they usually are back on b/p's in good numbers starting about the first few weeks of May.
This is what I have encoutered in the last 7-10 years on Granger.
There may be others that fish the lake that have other observations.
I will be posting on how well I did slow trolling next weekend.

I would'a thought they go deep during the winter. At granger that would be 15 to 20 feet. I was gonna set out winter brushplies. I guess that doesnt work there.

Spent the whole weekend out on Granger. Fishing is slow with the low water levels. Had to work to find the fish. Ended the weekend with only 26 fish in the livewell. Most were caught on BP's in 9'-10' of water. Water temp is starting to slowly cool down. Fish will be back on the 14'-16' BP's before long. Come on winter. BEVO's LAIR (hook'em horns) (renamed from Sooner1) produced the biggest fish of the weekend. A 14"er caught by none other than DBwoman. (Dangit, beat me again)

It was good seeing you and Dee again as well. She wooped you again huh? Man, that timber sure does look good and I like the stained water. If I come back, hopefully, I'll be brave enough to go up into the river. I didn't want to chance it with Bridgett aboard.

When you come back, hopefully we can make a trip up the river in my boat or maybe we can get Cvillemudcat or Crappieking to take us up the river and show us the way.
Granger is a good little lake. With alot of big crappie to catch
Forgot to mention that we caught 15-20 fish that just tipped the 10" mark. Went back in the lake for another day.

I'm not saying that you can't catch crappie during the winter on b/p's, I just don't think that you will catch as many as you would in the months of May thru Sept.
That is why I start slow trolling during this time due to the fact that you cover a lot of territory and don't waste as much time in one particular place.
Also as a bonus you usually find quite a few b/p's along the way when you are trolling.
Most of my trolling is done in anywhere from 12 to 25 ft. deep.
Go ahead and set out those b/p's, I'm always looking for new spots to add to the one's that I already have.
