Anyone have any good/bad experience with flotation pods added to the rear of an aluminum boat? I've got a 20' aluminum with a 115 hp 4 stroke on the back that just makes it seem a bit back heavy. I'm tempted to have a couple of flotation pods welded onto the back, but have reservations of how that affects handling, speed, and ride. Anyone have experience with this?

I moved two of my batteries up to the front of the of my boat, the ones for my trolling motor and it made a big differance in the way the boat floated and handeled. I also plugged my livewell unless I need it I dont need to carry the extra weight of all that water. Dont fill your fuel tank any fuller than you need. All of these things will lighten the back of your boat and allow it to float a little higher in the water.

I have dealt with and used and sold and everything that there is to be done with sponsons. On that express boat, I really don't think you will like the boats handeling once they have been put on. Here's why. That style boat is designed to be bow high on a pad while running top mph. With the transum sponsons, That AIN'T going to happen. So therefore, the bow is not going to be able to raise as high, Not allowing you to ride on a pad, Not being able to get max MPH. Fuel consumption will increase and may need to change props because of all these factors. Sponsons were designed to 1. float the boat higher,(in the stearn) 2. make the boat stay flat during hole shot, and 3. keep the boat flat at all times both in turns and straight runs. In all reality, it's used on a flats boat, not a bass boat. Some of the drawbacks with sponsons are they tend to , over a period of time, develope a leak, filling with water and causing some really weird floatation problems. I can't tell you how many sponsons that we have installed deck plates and drain holes.
In your case, I really would not do the modification. I think you will be very dissappointed.........

running on pad in an aluminum center console? Knew they had a pad hull in their bassboats but didn't know they had em on their CC's.

j. I got screwed up, I thought you were talking about the X- Picured on the site. If it's a true flatbottom, used in the flats. Go for it! If it's used in the lakes, don't waste your money. Just remember what might happen with the water logging.

Thanks for the info Mike. My boat falls in the Superjon line of boats that xpress sells. I believe it's a 13 degree hull at the front, tapering quickly to a flatbottom. Mainly I'm wondering what kind of ride it has in waves. I've usually got to travel a pretty good ways in waves to get to the skinny water that I like to fish.

Have you tried contacting Xpress, maybe they would have some tech support to guide in the right direction.I've never installed them, but most I've seen, were mounted 1in. to 2in.above running surface at rear.Other problems may be prop ventilation and steering clearance. Good luck!
