I'm curious why you think they are 5 steps back. There is a lot less plastic in the E series as was in the D series.
The new ones have 2 more bearings, titanium level wind insert, smaller frame, lighter weight, ARB added to the pinion support, shield added to the side plate bearing, and they are $20 cheaper than the D's.
I agree! I think Shimano hit a home run with this one. What other reel company made a better reel at a lower retail for 09? I used one this past weekend and I could not believe how bad arse it was. You guys will complain about anything

Have you used one yet? WHat makes you think there is less plastic in them? They feel much cheaper. I am the Shimano Rep for Texas. I have used one...many times and I have opened one up. I think you're equating "feels cheaper" to lighter. I heard comments like this about the Core when it first came out.."it's so light, it feels cheap."

Mr. Landrum Since you are the Shimano rep here in Texas, could you tell us when the left-hand models will be available. I am a Shimano addict and it drives me nuts that everyone I fish with gets their right-hand models months before I can get my lefty. Please tell me that will not be the case this time, no Core in left-hand has left me in withdrawal. Thanks, Derek

It will still be several weeks before the left hand Curado's and the Citica's start showing up. But they are coming.
The Curado will not be made in 6.2:1. The difference in inches of line per crank in the 7:1 and the 6.2:1 isn't much though.

Nut, My group handles the SW. (Texas, Ark, Ok, La). I manage the group and handle just a few accounts only. We have a rep who's territory includes the panhandle.

Benny, Here is a post I made last week in the Bass Fishing section: Thanks for the tip on Curado stock. After some research, leaning to the E5 to try to more closely match the retrieve rates of most of my existing reels.
Did some measuring to determine comparable advertised retrieve rates of the new Curados when compared to the original green Curados.
Inches/handle turn with full spools of line (actual measurements)
Old CU-200B5 Ratio 5:1 17.5 inches/handle revolution
Old CU-200 Ratio 6.2:1 22 inches/handle revolution
NEW CU200E5 - Shimano website says 21 inches/handle revolution
NEW CU200E7 - Shimano website says 30 inches/handle revolution
If the Shimano information is correct, the E5 is the closest match to the old standard 6.2:1 green reel. If I read correctly and the Shimano web site is accurate, there is about 9 inches/handle revolution difference between the E5 and the E7. This seems a pretty big difference at about 43%. I am near the Garland BPS. Have called BPS, Academy, and Southwest every couple of days the last two weeks and nobody seems to have the E5 yet (assuming the E5 will be the closest retrieve to the old 6.2:1 ratio B models). When should I see them on this side of Dallas?

Southwestern Parts should have them in as well as Academy.
The current 6.2:1 reels (Calais, Chronarch & Core) are all 26 inches. Hope that helps.

Benny, what does Shimano think about the way Academy pulled the "inside trader" junk and left the customers out in the cold?

If you are talking about the Curado D clearance sale like you were in your PM, I just don't think that was the case. Most stores only had 1 or 2 reels, lots of stores had none. With their return policy, they probably didn't want people returning a $199 Curado D and getting a new $179 Curado E. Makes sense to me.
