I had a striper plant a treble in my palm Friday way past the barb. Of course, he was nice enough to flip and rip it out too. Hurt a bit but was more concerned with catching the next one. Palm was bad enough, I can't imagine a finger. Yeesh!!!

I know that hook.....#6 gama on the BPS xps jig..there is actually two of them....had one in my thumb last thursday in and out then ...in my finger but not buried....man those hooks are so sharp i seen one get stuck in the air...midflight

A couple of years ago I got one in my finger, went to the E.R. doctor went to his car and brought in some rusty dic's pushed it through after deadening my finger and it only cost $500.00. The next time a friend of mine set the hook an a top water black bass and missed, it stuck me in the lip, it took me a while to push the hook through but I didn't have to pay the $500.00.

Looks like that hurt. My nephew once got a treble embedded in his knuckle and we had to take him to the ER. We couldn't pop it out. Use Lindy gloves now. Never touch a fish with a topwater in its mouth or a hybrid without the gloves. I know it may slow me down some but I feel its well worth it. Why take the chance? Its not a matter of if its gonna happen but when.

The same happened to me more times than I can remember. It seems to always be hybrids that cause this. My solution has been very effective and it is my policy now. Just pinch down the barbs on the hook. The hook will still go in, but it will also back out very easily. You may lose a few fish, but you will save a trip to the doctor too. It is also easy on the fish if they are being released. YEP---That is the law in our boat now. I have a pair of needle-nose vice-grips that do a great job of really pressing the barbs down flat. I also think we catch more fish since they are easier to take off and get you back in the action quicker.

Got this trying to unhook a hybrid. Caught 2 more sandies with the hook in and after not being able to push the hook thru decided to go to the emergency room. Thanks Frank 1 & the medical staff at the Lewisville Medical Center. Fisherman & finger are doing ok.  That hook looks like it came out of a freestyle jig like this:  If so, I know several people that have fallen victim to this same thing. I don't think I want to handle a big hybrid that has one hook in it's mouth and the other flying around. Though the lure is effective, perhaps cutting one of the hooks off would save a trip to the doc

The technique mentioned above works pretty well. I've done it a few times. If you fish a lot, getting a hook in you is gonna happen sooner or later. Make sure to keep your tetanus shots current.
