catch'n???, glad you had good luck with it, I used it for the first time on Friday and again on Sunday, I did not even get a bite with Secret7, the observations that I had was. 1. it is hard to get on the hook, even with a dough bait hook, 2. it disinegrates within 5 to 10 min from the hook when in the water. 3. No bites vs DK.
In my opinion unless I am doing something wrong (which is possible)it is not worth the money, 23.00 for something you have to buy other (more expense) equipment to get it to stay on and rebait every 5 to 10 min (more expense)wich makes the bait go faster, it is not worth the money, I will probably just seal the lid and drill some holes and use it for chum. All in all I really did not care for Secret7 vs DK Just curious....what bait holder did you use? Are you used to using punchbait, not dip bait? I might have a simple solution for you before you sink the 7.

I was thinking of trying this stuff out but I hear mixed opinions about it not staying on the hook, not producing any bites, and disenegrating under water within a few minutes etc. Anyone have any thoughts about that and what type of hook to use with this stuff?

I was using a dough bait trebel hook with the spring looking coil on the shaft of the hook, I also modified my own by putting a piece of sponge on the hook as well

Ive been using the product that Team Catfish sells. I have been trying their "Furry Thang" and their red-dip bait holders. I guess look at their web site for details. Both seem to hold the bait well enough. I have had more luck with a J hook on the furry thang than trebbles.

Thanks for your reply....Secret 7 will not work with a dough bait/sponge rig. Its to sticky and won't soak into a standard sponge rig, and a spring hook will not hold it very well either. Give me a PM and I will send you sone DEAD RED dip bait tubes. Try these and let me know if your luck changes.
A good dip biat does come off on the water, it leaves the maximum scent trail. There only has to be a small amout of bait on the bait holder when the catfish finds it.
Most of your dip bait is coming off when you are reeling in. I fished with it today in fast current and 4oz sinkers. We caught lots of blues and channels. Some cats came after it had set in the current for quite awhile. Others came after the 7 had already been hit a time or two. It was 101 when we ended up. I kept my bucket in the shade and the bait was fine.
Lets get you some tubes and get you to hammerin the cats. What cha think?

I just placed an order today for some Secret7. Looking forward to trying it. Have only fished HogWild and Catfish Dynamite before. Decent results but looking for more than that. Hoping this is it. Want to be a Monster Catfish Award Recipient soon.

Mick, I am a big fan of the bait myself and am using the tubes and the furry thangs. I bought a bunch of it and have been giving it away to folks who help me in my fishing endeavors. This is probably my complete ignorance of the term, but what do you mean by "double action hook"?

So, what's the deal with this Secret 7? I am somewhat new to catfishing, and my kids love to catch them and eat them, so I am trying to learn more about it.
I have been using DK for the past year, and it has done okay, but it seems easy to use. Stick a treble in the tub, grab my kneedle nose and twist, then twist it out.
Do you have to use special hooks with this secret 7? and from the sound of it, it is totally different kind of bait than DK.

TeamFish,
I bought 2 cans to try couple of weeks ago, used it twice but not catching any , still too early to lose confidence based on others' feedback. But I do have one question , the bait stuck to the dead red tube pretty well,but if there is no bite, how frequent should I refill it ? I let it stay on the bottom for 15 minutes, then pull back and refill, is that too frequent? Thanks;
Michael

I check and rebait a rod if it hasn't been hit in 5 minutes or so. If the bite really slows down, I'll put fresh bait on all of the rods. If it doesn't pick up in 5 more minutes I move. If the fish are there and feeding, you'll know it in a matter of minutes, sometimes seconds. The dead red tubes are your best bet for a bait holder. I cut mine in half and use them with a #6 trebble hook. The fish usually swallow this small bait, but we rarely lose or miss many fish.

Michael,
Thanks for your order....
If your are not catching any cats you should move often. The bait will last 15 minutes easy but will break down in the water creating its chum trail. This will cause some of it to come off when you reel it in.
How deep are you fishing? From the bank or boat? What kind of area? Lake or River?
Let me know....I will try to help you all I can.

Do you have to use special hooks with this secret 7? and from the sound of it, it is totally different kind of bait than DK. It's a different kind of bait....It's dip bait. You use a dip tube bait holder to load the bait inside and around. Some of the bait comes off when it hits the water creating a scent explosion. The rest of the bait thats on the outside of the bait holder will start to wash off creating a awesome chum trail. The bait inside the tube will stay there until the catfish finds it. It's a pretty simple system.
