What is going to happend to the fishing after this storm passes ? I was thinking about going to Port A this weekend and surf fishing but can't afford to make the drive if it is going to suck. I've basically got one trip left this summer and want to make it count. Anybody got any ideas. I see the forecast is good for this weekend with light winds but is the water usually messed up for a while after something like this happens ? Thanks for any insight you can give on this.

Go to PortAnow.com and look at the webcam pictures of the beach. Wateer is up to the dunes right now. The little post are where you park and on the other side of the post is usually about 50 -75 yards to the water usually. I think the surf would be a little tuff fishing today.

...The fishing is usually fantastic right after a storm...
IF...notice the big IF...the water conditions will allow you to fish.....if water is full of grass or is very muddy or cloudy then of course the fishing will be tough...Find the closest
freshwater bass lake and the fishing will be super....like the best ever....

Dad always said if you are too busy
to go fishing then you are too busy

The 2 biggest problems I have encountered after storms at the coast are 1) the infusion of too much fresh water which can cause the fishing to be slow for a few days, and 2) offshore currents can remain strong for several days after the storm passes. We went offshore about 4 days after a few years ago and it was difficult to get a rig to the bottom for snapper. Your line would be waaaaaaay behind the boat and darn near spool your reel before it touched bottom, even with really heavy weights.

Leaving out Sunday no matter what.Hopefully the surf will calm down and the weed will be out, if not will probably get in the kayak and head for shamrock area.Even if conditions are rough its better than workin'.

Any idea how much rain they got down there or just north of them ? I just wonder about the salinity. Let me know if you get any word about it. We are planning on leving in the morning but don't want to make a wasted trip. Goose Island Friday and then Port A Saturday and Sunday.

I would think the Freshwater drainage would push the fish out some. Plus the water will be muddy for a few days close to shore. Storms do clean up seaweed though!

Good things come to those who bait.

Just got a report from a guy down there and he says the water is very brown. Not likely to clear up for a few days. I think I'm going to have to wait for a week or two. Let me know if anybody hears anything different.

Yeah, I just called GISP..And everythings fine there, no damage to the pier... thumb
But was told the water was choclate brown there also...

So I'm thinking of trying MISP instead...They said everthings fine there, except for the park road(inside park)to the small rock jetties is closed. But hoping to be open tomorrow or Sunday...But can still access beach from the campsite areas...
Also, wanting to try fishing at the Packery Channel for the first time ...Which is only a few miles from MISP...Might even try Bob Hall Pier, but will probally just stick with surf-fishing with long rods...Leaving this evening, or early morning..wooohooo

Guessing a $100 for gas to get there and back...$6 for 2# dead-shrimp...
Fishing the surf, wind blowing in my hair, sand between my toes, beer in my hand, girls in Bikinis, etc...PRICLESS.... fish cheers clap
