Tony, What kind of boat are you running. I am in the White 21 ft. XPress Bay boat that is out there several days a week chasing Sandies.

I have probably seen you, but the Nitro just doesn't ring a bell. We are probably on different parts of the lake.

We go several evenings a week to look for top-water Sandies, if and when they may be there. If we don't find them we ski. If you see us it is usually with my wife, son, and the Border Collie, or a boatload of kids.

Last year there were lots of boats on the lake. This year there are fewer probably due to gas prices.

I will say this, I don't think the locals around here know about big motors and top-water schooling fish. Some days it is worse than Tawakoni, or even Texoma. Let one blow up be seen and varooooom---wide open----here comes anything from a bass boat to a pontoon barge right into the middle of them. They wave real friendly like. I just think they don't really know any better.

I think i seen you wed & thur afternoon. I agree with you about running into schooling fish. I also think the fish on cooper are more motor shy {even when they are not schooling} than on other lakes I have chased hybirds on. If you see me on the lake stop and say hi.

I thought I would let you in on a little "local knowledge"...most of the people that lived here when the lake was impounded do or did not like the lake because: the lake took their land or a family member's property with out their say. When the lake was new (1992) many of the local people were bitter and would have nothing to do with it. It was a common conversation in the city of Cooper. Also, many of the locals were not fishermen and if they did like to fish, Cooper was a big lake to people that were not used to fishing big lakes.

Overall, the locals here are very friendly. There is just not very many of them. There is not enough of them to do much damage. The good news on Cooper is: there is tons of spots with fish on them at all times!

Got a chance to fish with Pitch today and got into some schooling Hybrids! Looked like bowling balls falling from the sky. Some of those fish were chasing some huge shad!

By the way, Pitch is the guy that holds the record Hybrid on Cooper.

Don't think I am being critical about the "locals". Trust me, if you are from Cooper we probably have mutual "local" friends.

EDIT: If the connection between Dallas and Sulphur Springs turns out like the connection between Dallas and McKinney I will probably look to retire in Charleston, or at the dead end of the FM East of there. Now are we making a "local" connection? woot

Fished with the TPWD biologist last week, super group of guys. Just wanted to thank them again for all they have done and for the good fisheries we have. My hats off to them, look forward to fishing with them again.

oh I know you were not being critical...I was actually answering several comments that have been made about the locals in the past. no offence taken....by the way there were several people on the lake today and lots of fish caught. We had a blast with the hybrids this afternoon!

I was at the TSA tournament at Texoma this weekend. There was discussion about doing a fun TSA tournament at Cooper in the near future. Let the TSA gang get home and rested sleep..... Then will meet sometime next week and make some plans for Cooper. grin
