I like window weights myself. Perfect size and easy to carry.

How many RR spikes do you use for each jug? 1. then carry your jugs in a milk crate and stick the spike through the side for easy carrying.

I just built a batch of 2 liter bottle jugs. I got 20lbs of lead from the local metal salvage (about $18). Melted the lead, poured into a donut shape that fits on top of the 2 liters for storage. Well, that was the plan anyways. My "mold" was foil and rabit wire, which worked but kept producing inconsitant sized lead donuts. They tie on easy, but I need to perfect the mold so each donut slides over the 2 liter top.
I keep the 2 liter jugs in plastic coke cases I found in the trash at work, eight per case. They stay put when flying across the lake, store easy at home, stack. I keep a rubber band around each jug for extra line storage.
Take a kid fishing!

I have made weight like big possum for a while. I used to use old metal cans. Now I use those 1 qt paint buckets you can but at Lowes. I spray them with cooking spray before putting the concrete in them. I usually use a U bolt from lowes in the top. They sell the u bolts for $.50 with a bar going across the bottom held in place by two bolts. I wait for them to dry and pull the paint buckets back off. You end up with a little 2-3lb weight with a heavy duty half circle coming out of the top.
I like the one with the gatorade bottles because it would be less likely to scratch anything up.

Ditto on the 1lb dumbbells from Academy. I even got fancy and drilled the ends and using a plastic lag, screwed eye bolts in. I put a big snap on the end of my jug lines and add the weights as I bait and throw them in.
If you don't know where you are going, don't be surprised if you don't get there.

I make mine out of concrete, wire cast in a 16 ounce plastic cup. Tried the dumbells and railroad spikes but the fish carry them off too far and they don't hold against the wind.

I have to admit that the cement in the plastic bottles looks good. I may have to make some of those. I used to make them in Styrofoam cups but they are rough on my ears in the boat after the Styrofoam wore off. The plastic looks good. The next time Mama goes on a pouring flagstone jag, I'll make a passel of them. My wife is the BEST. She actually ASKED for a 3 1/2 cubic foot cement mixer for our anniversary last year! Ya gotta love a woman that likes power tools!
