I'm having a heck of a time getting the settings adjusted correctly. It seems like the more I play with the settings, the worse it gets. I usually end up resetting them back to factory defaults, but even the defaults aren't that good. I looked at the manual and they have tons of pictures of sonar screen shots that look terrific. I realize I may not be able to get mine to look that good, but I'd like to get as close as possible. I'm interested in how other LCX-28C owners have their's setup. I'd like to try some of your settings to see how they look. Let me know what works for you and thanks for your input.

How long have you had your unit? I have taken screen shots with mine that are very good. Check to make sure you have the surface clutter on. The only things I messed with is ping speed and sensitivity. What does yours look like? Is the transducer through the hull? I've been very satisfied with mine. At first I was messing with everything and running into the same issues. If you have the chance, just spend a day with no poles and just run the lake getting used to the unit. Just some of the things I did, maybe not alright for everyone.

Have you tired any of the User Presets? If not, here is how to access them. 1) With the unit on and on the Sonar page, hit Menu. 2) Scroll down and highlight Sonar Features and hit ENT. 3) Sonar Features will be highlighted, so hit ENT. 4) Scroll through the different presets and choose the one that most resembles what type of water you are in or fishing you are doing and hit ENT and then hit Exit twice to go back to the Sonar view. 5) From here you can adjust the settings to fine tune the preset. Alot depends on the location and type of transducer you are running. Work within these presets and I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for, literally

I don't have that exact unit but I have the same menus as you do. I run my units on manual.
I can't stand noise so I have all sounds and alarms turned off.
I have the color line in the low 60s.
The sens is a high as I can run it and not clutter up the screen.
When fishing the ping is set at 50%.
I disable the zoom bar and amplitude scope to get a wider screen.
I set upper and lower limits to get a taller screen and not have to fool with zoom.

That's what I'm looking for. I've been keeping my sensitivity around 68. Much more than that and the screen has a lot of clutter (purple) from top to bottom. I'll try some of the settings you guys have recommended and hope it gets me close. I can make small adjustments from there and see how it turns out. Thanks for the input guys!

Question: Why don't you want your ping speed set at 100%?

Ping speed will look different at what speed you are going. Here is just an example: If I have my ping speed at 100% and I'm just drifting along, a mark in the water appears longer, because of the number of times the sonar sends and receives signals. Like medic said, it is hard to explain. If you are moving along at 20mph you want a faster ping speed. Basically, if you don't adjust if for your speed, your screen becomes cluttered. I'm sure that is as clear as mud.

The ping speed makes perfect sense. It's currently set at 100% and does show long lines instead of arches when anchored up. When traveling across the lake at 20-30 mph, I see arches, but they are not very well defined. It's more like a flattened circle with clutter usually around. I've seen other's graph screen shots and see the arches showing up really clear. That's what I'm after so I can tell the difference. I've adjusted the sensativity, color line and even chose a different preset of "brackish" and "shallow" water conditions. My surface clutter is usually set to off and my noise is usually on low. If anyone has anything else to add, I'm all ears. Thanks for the feedback, guys!

Kevin, it sounds like the clutter you are seeing may be due to electrical noise. I would start with everything in your boat turned off while you are out on the water and drifting. If you are getting a clear reading, then start by turning one thing on at a time...your bilge, livewell, lights, etc. If the clutter appears when one of them is turned on, then you can will know what is causing it. You may have to isolate some electrical wires that are touching the network or sonar cables. Hope this may help.
