I am planning to make a trip mid June to the Port Aransas area to target stingrays. How are the concentrations of rays in the shallows in June? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your worst day of fishing is 100x better than your best day at work!

wow, why target sting rays? I throw them away and if I catch more than one, I move. PA is tough, simply because of the number of people that go there, family place with more activities. I always go to PO, I have never been skunked there.

Seems that everyone wants to know why I'm after them. A coworker of mine fishes the area for reds and specks (as I do in South LA) and he told me about the stingray problem over in PA. So, a buddy of mine and I decided that we would hook up the boat, grab the bows and do our best to help y'all out with your ray problem. My buddy loves to eat rays also. So if you guys have any places that are shallow, relatively clean water, and loaded with rays, some pointers would be greatly appreciated. Not looking for reds or specks, (plenty back home) just hoping to shoot some of those pesky rays and make it safer for all the wade fisherman Thanks

Keep your a** back in LA and find some rays over there! Killing anything off isn't good for the environment. People just need to buy some Ray-Boots. Also... Where did you get the idea that there is a PROBLEM with the sting ray population? Just because people are getting hit, doesn't justify a problem! You're not from Texas and everyone else who is seems to not have any problem with the sting ray population. You've just heard through the grapevine that there is a ray problem so here comes "Crazy Cajun" to the rescue!!

You've just heard through the grapevine that there is a ray problem so here comes "Crazy Cajun" to the rescue!! Hey buddy I'm not really sure if that was called for. I was simply asking about the stingray population in the area. I have plenty of education (six years of college, 2 degrees, and a 100K+ salary to show for it) Second, apparently you took my post a little too seriously. Of course I know you don't have a real problem with rays, hence the winking smiley face. And I promise you, I was not intending on killing off your stingray population by making a one night bowfishing trip and spending a few days on the beach. I have no interest in ray boots, just enjoying some pan fried ray that my fishing partner cooks up. I was just trying to bring a little humor into my post. So thank you very much for your kind post. If anyone else would like to offer any friendly advice, it would be much appreciated. By the way, its " You're not from Texas..." not "Your". A**hole

Ummmmm.... Not too sure what YOU'RE talking about.... Alright.... But if you kill them just make sure you eat them. And don't throw them back with their barbs chopped off. Apologies Lousianian... My inner Texan pride got a hold of me and just can't stand when people just kill something for fun. Especially in an area that won't effect them.

Anytime you mention bowfishing people get their panties in a wad around here, good luck and welcome to Texas.

Bowfishing for carp is just fine since they are a non-native species to Texas. Also, its hard to get my panties in a wad when all I wear are thongs!

I think your thong cut off the blood to your brain. If you read Mike H post he states that they are going to eat them. No need to blow up on someone like that. Mike gives the rays you don't eat to the shark fisherman for bait.

wow this thread got interesting! Gl Mike, and not all of us from TX have that attitude, so welcome to this great state. Please enjoy your trip and hopefully you won't run into that attitude when you are actually here.
We are, in general, fun loving honest folks here, as I expect the same in LA. I've been to your state a lot and really loved not just the place, but the people were incredible.
Ok done with the stroking. If you get any, post some pictures for us. Also, how do you cook them? I catch them a lot when I'm down there (at least one per trip), but I have always thrown them back. I ate sting ray in Korea last year, on a business trip and to be honest I found it quite foul! But then again, I found most of the food I was feed foul on that trip so I don't think that was a real indication of the potential quality of sting rays.

Speaking as a Crazy "Texas" Cajun, (I hold duel citizenship) I gigged one (ray) last year right off the causeway between Port A and Aransas Pass. I was just off the channel that runs along the south side of the causeway. I cooked it on the grill. It was great. Thanks to this forum, I knew how to clean it. LOOK ---> mapSorry for the flame about your post, but it does take a big man to apologize. You are not going to fish???? Man, I would think you couldn't help but make a few tosses for specs/reds while you are there. I've seen rays down there, but I've seen more Specs and Reds, but bowfishing does sound like a blast. Also, I went to college in LA and in TX. Does one cancel the other one out?
