Any special techniques casting a Carolina rig with braid. I can't cast more than 30 feet without the line hanging up on itself and stopping in mid air.

17 lbs. mono as main line, and 15 lbs. florocarbon as my leader. Floro is less visable and will get you more bites as your leader. Its all experimental, try several different ways and see which one you get more bites on, or which one feels more comfortable to you (feel wise).

I will use braid for the main line and then floro for the leader.

Main thing on casting is to throw with a solid fluid motion...dont snap the rod tip or stop the rod quickly and it will cast fine...i can cast as far as i like with mine on a 7'6" rod. JR

I have used braid as a main line for the C rig for years with 15 pound test P-line CXX as my leader and haven't had any problems. Not only can you feel whats going on down there better with the braid, I think you get better hook sets due to the non stretch of the braid. I use 50 pound test Izor line braid. Ditto to the above except I use McCoy's or Fireline as the braid. It's just personal preference.

I use 30lb Suffix braid with 15lb or 20lb Floro InvizX.

65lb Power Pro braided and 20 lb flouro and would not go back to mono as my main line. The sensitivity is so much better with Braided

Those carolina keepers are sooo much better and faster than tying the original way. 1 line only. +1 The sensitivity of my rig doubled when I took the swivel out of the equation. I run 15lb Trilene fluoro...a Carolina Keeper...then a Tru-Tungsten weight, brass ticker, and Tungsten force bead.

I don't use floro for the leader, cause it sinks! I like my lure to float a little, when pulling behind so I use mono;trilene big game. I do use braid as my main line simply because there is no stretch when setting the hook so far away.

In my opinion it is not a C-Rig without the swivel. It is merely a pegged TX rig. The bait has more action with a swivel.

The ability for the bait to twist if need be is the only thing I can think of a swivel aiding in, and flukes are the only bait I generally worry about that with.

Try them rigged both ways in a swimming pool and you can see it with your own eyes. Twist affects action of the bait. They appear more natural and have better action with a swivel. Also those Carolina keeper's are very hard on your line.
