Anytime you mention bowfishing people get their panties in a wad around here, good luck and welcome to Texas. No, I don't get my panties on a wad just over bowfishing. Bowfishing for carp is just fine since they are a non-native species to Texas. Also, its hard to get my panties in a wad when all I wear are thongs! So if you don't care about non native fish you won't mind them shooting florida largemouth, hybrid stripers, and stripers since none of them are native to texas lakes, right?

I've heard that the way to prep and cook ray is to skin them out...get to the fleshy white meat in the wings and cut it into cubes....marinate them in a sauce of Olive oil, Sea salt, Cracked black pepper, Bay leaf and a litle bit of cayenne pepper....then put them in a pressure cooker and let them steam for about an hour......
I've heard that if done up correctly they are comperable to scallops.

I reckon the armadillos, coyotes, brown-headed cowbirds, crows and others I shoot doesn't fit well with you either, huh? Not directed to you Scott...

Crazy thread! I got your drift, Mike. I also know why Mullet there went off the handle. Too many ignorant types who like to go kill for the thrill of killing. My grandaddy was one of those quiet, serious, man's man types. He could fish anywhere, anytime. A three day trip into the wild was no stretch. He also said anyone who killed things for the damned pleasure of it was a coward because it took a real man to be responsible and merciful. Said white trash went poppin' the wildlife and sometimes trash had big bank accounts and a big car. So remembering the man lets me understand Mullet's little rant. Give him a break, he might have had too many run ins with "trash". But as for the rays! Yes, Port A has lots of 'em. We find a lot of them hanging around the ferry area. Like pulling up a kite. I haven't caught any in the jetties, but that doesn't mean anything. Wrap the wings in banana leaves with ginger, garlic and a little soy sauce and cook 'em on a low fire. Just like a giant scallop.

Too many ignorant types that can't let people enjoy and talk about their COMPLETELY LEGAL sport without being criticized.

I find it a bloodsport and low class. Maybe if you only killed what you planned to eat it wouldn't seem so disgusting. But going out on a saturday night, killing 20+ rough fish and then dumping them or saying you are going to use them for fertilizer(not legal btw) goes against everything taught to someone with morals.

I asked this same question here last year and got the same response... yelled at for bowfishing.
I suppose no one actually "kills" a fish by allowing them to swallow a hook or by cleaning them to eat, either....

How do you know what I or anyone else does with their fish? Are you a mind reader? I think you need to find better things to do than screw with people who are enjoying a LEGAL SPORT.

Scott, you need to stop posting false information on the law, it is perfectly legal to use rough fish as fertilizer. I dont know where you get your information but your are obviously misguided.
This is a response that I got from Texas Parks and Wildlife:
Yes. If you catch a fish legally in Texas public waters, the fish effectively becomes your property and you can do what you want with it: eat it, let it go, take it home and put it in your private pond or aquarium, etc.
There's a waste-of-fish clause that prohibits leaving edible fish or bait fish to die without the intent to use them for consumption or bait (page 29 of the Outdoor Annual). This causes some confusion, because people have different ideas about whether rough fish should be considered "edible." We've heard from citizens who were outraged to find dozens of dead and wounded carp lying around in dumpsters after bowfishing tournaments: this sort of thing would certainly violate the spirit, if not the letter, of the regulations.
But if you harvest rough fish (remove them from the lake area), take them home, and choose to use them for fertilizer instead of food, I would say that's making reasonable use of the resource.
If you intend to package your fertilizer and sell it, that might be a different matter because it would involve commercial use of public resources.

I realize this comment has nothing to do with stingrays, however I just wanted to give MHO on something. In regards to Artan S. ,no offense intended, if it swims in the Gulf of Mexico, I call it "Dorado", if it swims in the Pacific then it is "Mahi Mahi". Is there a cajun name for it?
not trying to get anyones panties in a wad, just a comment is all.
