I am in the market for a new to me boat. I am really thinkg of buying a Bullet, but I have had several people tell me that they do not handle rough water well. Your input would be appreciated.

Most of the people that tell you that have never been in one. I had several people tell me that before I got mine. I knew better because I had already been in it several times. Everybody thinks because they are so light, they can't take rough water. I like mine in rough water better than my old Triton TR21.

I have a buddy with the 22 foot Bullet. That is a good riding boat. But from what I understand the 20 footer is not near as good. I would call a Bullet dealer, and see if you can get some demo rides to see which one fits you best.

I've got a 20' and I won't lie to ya, when it gets rough you will be the slowest boat on the lake. When I say rough I mean anything over 3' chop. Anything under that the boat rides great! I've been in a 21' Bullet and it's a completely different world. That extra foot turns a corvette into a 4 door sedan without the loss of speed and performance. A 21' will definately be my next boat.

My brother and some friends owne the 20 footer and it can get a little rough but never had any problems. I think it has more to do with the driver than anything. I have owned the 21'10" 21XD and have a fishing buddy who bought it from me and still owns it and it is a really smooth riding boat and like others have said the extra length does make a big difference. It is also one of the best laid out boats there is. I now own a 21 foot Ranger and it is a more stable boat while fishing and running but the ride is actually smoother in the Bullet. I have also owned Bass Cats in the past and they are all three great boats and I put the Bullet right up there with them.

I have a 20' Bullet that I have fished out of for 10 years. It can be a little rough riding in bigger waves, however I have felt over the years that the advantages of a Bullet outweighed the disadvantages. Every boat is a compromise. Personally, I liked something a little different and I liked the speed that came with the Bullet. Also, you give up nothing in fishability or layout. This year I bought an Allison, which is a great boat, but also a compromise, maybe even more than a Bullet.
If I had not made the decision to go with an Allison, Bullet would have been my hands down choice. I still have the Bullet and am going to put it on the market soon. If you are in the market, it is possibly the best kept 12 year old Bullet in the state. PM me if you want any details.

Mr. Yates hit the nail on the head, IMO.......
I owned a 20XD, and loved it. It fished very well, and took rough water as good as anything that length. They are a lighter hull and require "extra" time behind the wheel in order to drive these performance boats correctly. The deep V, coupled with the beam width can challenge two tournament guys on the side to side rocking action at times while fishing.....

I love my 20xd in the thick & tight spots though. With that narrow front end shallow running hull it makes manuevering in the thick stuff easy. To me a Bullet is a pure fishing machine.

Every 20 foot boat I have ever been in gets rough in 3' waves, and the notion of a "dry ride" is a myth. When the wind is blowing hard enough to create 3-4 foot waves, it is blowing hard enough to get you wet from the spray that ANY boat is going to create.
One of my buddies has a 22 foot Bullet. I have ridden in it many times, in all types of waves and wind conditions, and it is a very smooth ride. Then again, although his boat will do over 80 mph and one thing we never have to worry about at tournament blastoff is anyone passing us and beating us to our hole, he doesn't try to break any speed records when running in rough water.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy several different boats on the market today, and Bullet is one of them. But whatever boat I buy, I am not going to buy it with some unrealistic notion that it is going to ride like a Rolls Royce on a smooth highway when I am running it in 20-25 mph winds and 3-4 foot waves.

I'm still amazed that 38K can be considered a steal for a boat. But, in todays market, sadly, you are correct.

I've only been in a 21XD, but I have to say I was more than impressed with how the boat handled rough water. I figured I was in for a beating with that light of a hull. I also have to say I'm impressed with how well this hull has held up. ZERO stress cracks and this boat has been run hard for 7+ years on Rayburn. It's been in it's fair share of rough water. About my only complaint is having to flip the seats forward to get in the rear boxes. That annoys this tall guy!
Let's DO IT!

From what I have seen they are more of a Race boat that you can fish out of. They are too narrow and don't have enough storage room or Front Deck space IMO..
