I switched to Power Pro braid for everything. You just have to have the patience to let weightless stuff sink. I've caught fish in 15ft on weightless senkos. I do use floro leaders on my finesse stuff. I'm using 10lb Cabela's No Viz floro for that.
The mono backing is ABSOLUTELY necessary. I tried tying the braid directly to the spool before I knew better. It no worky.

The braid will spin on the spool like the drag isn't working.

I am a big Bass guy and I have always been a fan of the Trilene sensation. Its all a matter of what style you fish with, I use a lot of finesse and weightless soft plastics and it gives me the best feel of anything I have used before. Be patient when fighting the big ones, but I use 10 pound and rarely ever lose bass on the fight.

For my bass fishing baitcaster low pros and abu's I only use Berkleys Trilene XL 14, 17 and 20 lb in green color. Small diameter, low memory and smooth casting is why I prefer it. It's not cheap but not too expensive. I use it for worms, jigs, crankbaits and spinners. If I am fishing Fork I only use 20lb of the same line.
For my crappie/sandie open faced reels I use big game. Big game is thicker and tends backlash because it of the memory. So it doesn't work to well on my baitcasters. My friend loves it though but he uses abus only for bass. I always backlash with it on my low pros.
I will have to try the sensation. I didn't think much of the trilene max.

I have used the sensation in the past, only problem I had with it was breaking at the knot and I use a polymer knot exclusively. Anyone tried the Suffix Performance Braid yet? I am thinking about getting some to put on my soft plastic rigs.

The responses seem to be Apples and Oranges, and even a few Do you mean open face reel like a spinning reel? If so, I would go with 30# Power Pro. If you can use a bait caster, I would use 50-65 lb Power Pro, like mentioned above.

I just bought Big Game 20# line for my bait caster, round reel. (Abu Garcia C4 5600) I can't cast worth a flip yet. I want to try braid, but I figure one good backlash a day and that expensive stuff will wear my budget out. I fished for the first time for quite a while today without too bad of a backlash...then I got a good one...and had to cut all my line. I heard how great baitcasters were, and had to try one. Now if I could use it without backlashing I would love it. I don't have too much patience for backlashes. I was using too light of a lure, then changed to a shakey head worm...did okay there. But when I put the salamander on it must of changed weight more than I thought, and I backlashed pretty bad. I almost bought Power Pro, but not sure about the comparison to mono in weight. Would twenty pound weight be comparible to 50 # power pro?

It depends on what you are fishing for, and where you are fishing. I use mono the most. But I do like to use a Floro leader, especially if the water is clear, or if I am trout fishing. I tried Vanish and hated it. I like the Transition by Berkley, but have not tried to spool just it on my main reel. I also use it for my fly fishing. I hate Cajun Lake. I so far like Berkley Big Game, it hasn't been on long though. I have tried Stren mono and like it too. Trilene Mono is very good. I plan to try braid in the very near future. I also would like to try Trilene Floro....and see how I like it. I do not buy floro leaders sold in tiny spools. I buy regular floro line and just cut off what I need for a leader, it is a lot cheaper that way. If it is the same weight, I don't see what difference it makes. I hope this has helped you a little.

I am thinking about getting some to put on my soft plastic rigs. THe Sufix braid is excellent--both on baitcasting and spinning reels. Doesn't seem to dig in like other braids do. Their 20lb braid is what I caught the C&R record redfish on.
