Tuna have some of the best eyes for night feeding in the sea. Even your BFT are very adapt with nighttime vision.

Yes, I hear you. The same happens when we use the wire for Wahoo. The bites do drop off significantly.

Mel, When I fished Midnight Lumps out of Venice, LA, I kept using mono without wire to get bites. At the end of trip I lost 15 jigs by wahoo and king mackerel, but here is the reward of 86 lbs wahoo.

That is an awesome Hoo. I've seen pictures of one over 90# but to catch one over 80# is a feat!

as for the cook and/or sponsor i'm indifferent. just make sure the cook knows he has to cook for me, which means every 2 hours

Actually it was not.
I hooked up the fish while other guy fighting a tuna. I just let the fish run and I didn't fight until we landed the tuna. When I started to fight my fish, the wahoo almost gave up fighting. The next day we got a 92 lbs wahoo on bait.

does wahoo make good sashimi? i have not tried it or seen it anywhere

It makes wonderful sashimi. We had some last year. One day on the Lump in January on a boat w Argo and his friend Bo caught one 95 lber and two right at 70. Only one Yf at 80 but the wahoo sashimi was amazing.
