A duck. The male mallard grabbed a topwater and tried to fly away. Picture a duck flying in circles while you fight him on rod and reel, and that's how it was. Reeled the critter in and released it. A mad duck can be a handful up close, by the way. That happned to us, but it was a pelican! It crashed on a top water bait do hard, it went several feet underwater. It was hooked very deep and was a booger to get out. Had to wrap up the bird with a towel to keep it still and even then, it wasn't easy. That was one PO'd bird when it was all said and done.

I'm not sure this counts, but while at a tank behind my parents' house I saw a duck down the bank from me going crazy flapping in the water. I ran over and started picking it up. This was a really heavy duck... or maybe it was the ten pound turtle latched on to it's leg.

You know the ones, they had 2 lines that went up to the plane that controlled the flight controls. It would fly around in circles while the operater would also go in circles on the ground.

Two weekends ago, my dad was throwing a norman and caught a largemouth budlight can right through the tab on the rear treble hook. It actually looked like the mouth of a fish when it first surfaced. We had a good laugh about it. Also, I caught a big snapping turtle on my father in law's pond once. The turtle was not happy.

Just wondering, what is the strangest thing/things any of you have caught? For me it would have to be a broken pair of sunglasses. Caught them on a beetle spin fishing a small pond in Mesquite. West Lake Park, one small bass about 6 inches, several sticks and a pair of sunglasses that day. All were catch and release to the proper locations: fish back in the water, sticks and sunglasses in trash barrel. Caught a zebco 404 fishing reel and half rod....hehehcleaned it up and that thing still works and works very well....

I was fishing Lake Texoma back in '68 near a place called "the cliffs". There was a brushy trail that led down to the water.... a good place for bass.
While walking down to the water I snagged and broke off a jointed eel fishing lure. A quick search through the foliage resulted in nothing more than ticks and chiggers, so I pressed on and tied on another lure.
Two years later I took a friend back to that same area, carring my rod, reel and tackle box down to the water's edge. Upon arriving at the bank I noticed the lost lure snagged on the end of my fishing rod, hooked with my Bayou Boogie lure...shad color. It was the same jointed eel fishing lure that I had lost two years before, rusted hooks but otherwise unhurt.
I still have that jointed eel fishing lure, never used it again.

I caught a budlight with a spinnerbait... the hook was caught on the lip(outer rim) of the can.. it wasn't stuck through the tab or in the hole...just on the rim.. I do not know how it made it to the boat. The good thing is.. I have witnesses to back up my story... I would not have believed it.

Funny thing. My buddy was fishing with me and broke off while using a bobber. About five minutes later the bobber came by my boat just under the water, I reached over grabed it and the 3 lb catfish on it. Then I was down rigging the same day and hooked a big stick look behind the boat tried to shake it lose and it would not come lose, so I reeled it in and noticed it was a bait caster with a 7 ft rod barley used. It cleaned up nice and now is being used. That was a great day.

On a boring day on Texoma I told a buddy (he could be a little slow) that he should tie on a weightless shad and try for a sea gull. Sure enough he got one. Sea gull are not too freindly with a hook in their beak. He reeled it in and removed the hook. When released the sea gull left something behind on his leg. He said that that would have been a dead sea gull if he had seen the deposit earlier. My dad caught an owl one time on a floating mouse.
