catchnrelease which part ? Clost to Granger or G'town ? Thanks for any help. Going out in the morning. Since he said he fished upstream from the ((steps))...I'm assuming he fished Circleville (Granger area)...

Closer to Gtown, circleville. Between the "steps" and the Hwy 95 bridge. Nearer to the steps. There seems to be less people in that area. You'll need to wade across the river if you come in by the steps. You'll have to hike a ways if you park by hwy 95. I never made it downstream of the steps to see if anyone was catching in that direction. Good luck.

Does anyone know where to get live bait when heading out to the steps @ San Gab?

Question...about a mile or so down from the steps, Rd 347 makes a sharp left, but to the right looks like a road with parking near the river. Is this public or private?

sounds like you're talking about the primitive boat launch area. If so, it's public

Fished Tejas on Saturday from about 8am till 3 or 4pm with NO luck. I didnt seen anyone catch anything! We used river minnows and rooster tails. All we managed to catch was a chill. All these cold fronts are messing up the fishing!

Fished near the steps Sunday morning. My dad and i caught seven (5 males all about 11 inches and 2 females about 13 each), all in about an hour from 8:00 to 9:00. No luck the rest of the day. Packed it in around 1:00. It looked like alot of people were catching, one guy walked out around 10:00 with what looked like 15 fish. He said he had walked way down from the steps towards the lake. It is raining today in Hutto, so i imagine SG is getting rain too. Maybe the rain and the 70+ temps this week will really get the fish moving.

Good to hear you and your dad caught a few, Phillipatomus. At least the fishing has picked up at SG a little since the past few weeks. Hate to hear Dubbya's "Tejas" report. I've only fished "Tejas" once. And that was some years ago. I didn't catch many back then either.
Some much needed rain would be nice but, let's hope we don't get too much rain in there. I've seen good fishing turned bad on SG after it flooded overnight several years ago. It took several days to recover, and then... it was never the same. Last month, after a good rain above Lake Somerville, the creeks rose about 2 to 3 feet. The fishing picked up considerably once the water started clearing up. It seems sometimes like there is no middle point with this rain. It is is either drought or flood, heat-wave or freeze. typical TX weather I guess.
I fished Somerville Sunday. I managed about 9 fish at Newman's Bottom. My group of 3 caught 19 total from 3PM to dark. Most fish came from 1 hole.
Shut up and fish!

I fished the steps Sunday morning from 6:45-9:45. Ended up with 4 whites and 6 crappie. Doesn't say much about the white bass run when you catch more crappie than whites. A few others were catching, but no more than I. Most large stringers I have seen over the past few weeks have been community stringers - i.e.: one guy is keeping and others are pitching in.

Thanks for the info. We caught around 15 or a little less at the steps Sunday. Not the greatest weather but the fishing was good. All whites except 1 super small black. Lots of people out.
