I'll keep my old Suburban. Not great gas mileage but it is paid off so I can use the truck payment to pay for gas.

I think the ultimate tow vehicle is a Chevrolet Crew Cab Z71 4x4 that's what I use every day and it does a great job.

I have owned and towed with two diesel trucks and they were both good. I now have a Tundra DC with 5.7 and I am much happier. It noramlly gets 20 mpg on the road and 15 mpg towing the boat n my sig. The maintenance on a gasser is much less and gas is very easy to find. I always hated that diesel had to share a pump with gas. Just my thoughts, good luck. Jim

You could customize that puppy and retrofit some lockable rod/tackle boxes for the bed of that thing...have a rolling secure Academy! I'd be broke as he11...lol

I pull a 21' Ranger w/ 250 Yamaha with an '04 Chevy 2500HD crew cab 4 x 4 DuraMax diesel and get a little over 14 mpg @ 65 mph. Yea, the diesel prices are outa sight and the up-keep on the diesel is a little more but it sure pulls the boat good. Personal preference

My tow vehicle is a '00 Ford 250 with a 7.3 diesel....best truck I have ever owned...193K miles and has only failed me once (camsensor) which I replaced myself...the only other time this truck has been to the shop is to have a waterpump o-ring replaced...I have regular maintence done like servicing the tranny every 50K and oil changes at 7K..in a month or so I will be putting on my 4th set of tires...I get just shy of 21 mpg on the open road and around 17 pulling my boat....had planned on getting rid of this one this summer but I beleive I will keep it a couple more years... You can look at every brand of truck made and you will not find a 3/4 ton truck with a gas engine that will get anywhere close to that fuel mileage nor will you find many gas engines that will last 400K miles and still produce 75% of there original horsepower.. In my opinion...diesel is the future...I beleive the oil companys know this and are keeping diesel high to discourage the public from buying the diesel cars that alot of manufactures are making...VW has two or three models getting over 50mpg...and at the same time we are all paying for the high diesel prices since everything that moves freight in this country runs on diesel...I will continue to drive mine and will not hesitate to buy another when the time comes....

823 hp dyno sheets to prove it pulls the trailer right out from under the boat....and still gets 21 mpg

I would stay away from the Nissian Titian, i have a 05 Crew cab 4x4 with the big tow package and pulling my Nitro 901 i get between 8 to 10 Mpg and without a load 13 to 14 on the HWY. Great truck just loves the gas:(..

What would you guys consider the ultimate towing vehicle for a 21' bass rig considering fuel milage, initial cost, maintinance costs, and towing power? Just curious all the trucks that everyone has mentioned will do the job and then some. the initial cost will be farely close to each other for gas models. The diesel will cost more intially though, will also be considerably more costly with repairs. Fuel mileage is good but not good enuf to ofset the cost of the fuel. iam by no means bashing a diesel though i just feel that the are only nessassary for towing very large items such as fifthwheels and livestock trailers etc... Towing power on all the gas models mentioned will to the job that your looking for and fuel mileage will be competitive across the board. It really boils down to your opinion and which truck and model you like the most. Ofcourse my vote would go to the Tundra 5.7L I own one, I sell them and I firmly believe in them. Also iam not saying that I dislike other models but some are better than others. choices 2. chevy 3. ford 4. dodge 5. nissan Keep in mind if you really like a diesel most of the models in the 1/2 ton segment will be available with a diesel engine within a couple of years.

I'll take my duramax every time. It doesn't even know my 3500# rig is back there. Some guys with gas engines pull my boat and their trucks struggle and downshift a lot in out hills.

Do your homework....figure out what you can afford....and go out and get it....hopefully that will be a Chevy, Ford, or a Dodge...I have owned all three and currently have two Fords and a Chevy...these are the only three brands I would even consider...

That might be all right for pulling a boat around....but I beleive it will come up a little short when I need to move my tractor....

Duramax Here. If you can get by with a 1/2 ton than do it. If you need a 3/4 ton, a diesel is cheaper to operate and maintain in my opinion, even in the current fuel market.
