Hey guys. I am new to the forum. Anyone going out on Thursday? I snagged a day off and plan to hit the steps and Tejas. If nothing else I will post back up with a report.

I'll be heading out in the morning for the steps. I figure I will pack it up there by lunch time if there isnt much action. I think hitting Tejas by 1 or 2pm is doable for me. Be ready for a hike at Tejas. I havent fished much at the drive up spots, but I know if its on you can slaughter them about 1.5 - 2 miles hike.

Hey catch n release - I haven't had much luck up willis creek, but my friends have been fishing it a little more and mostly end up with a few keeper whites, usually 4 or 5 way up creek from the park near a county road bridge. I plan to try hiking down river from the Primitive boat launch past Fox bottom and try my luck there... best of luck!

Which direction? Upstream or down? I've hiked both ways, and have always wondered how far up they go if there's some water. I think that Tejas is an April thing usually, when we get a lot more rain...

Im not sure on which direction but getting there is part of the fun for me. LOL. Got any suggestions. My gut says up river and IIRC my buddy said his brother took 25 crappie and 15 whites about a mile up. I have never fished the steps before.

i fish the steps a bit and i have to say that first sandbar is alwasy a good spot but if you dont get there early i mean by 6:30 or so it gets packed quick. i like walking down river and find a good spot to fish never cought a limit there. a boat is really the way to go. i say this cause you can hit all the spots that bank fishers cant. the past 2 weekends weve been in my cousins jon boat and weve been doing okay catching all whites in the deep 15 to 28 foot of water. crappie were cought in 2 foot with a nice drop off in the river. im getting spoiled going out with my cousin cause i dont have to walk and by the time we leave my feet dont hurt from all the walkin. lol

Deckhand II, please share the GW phone #. I'd like to put it on my cell speed dial. I'm not against taking a trash bag and picking up some garbage on the way out. With my son along I think it shows him that I respect the land more than I respect some of the people that trash it. Thanks

I appreciate the info. I'm headed out to the Steps at the San Gabriel tomorrow first thing. After that, I may start near the bridge upstream on Willis creek and work my way downstream. A co-worker told me his cousin caught some crappie and a few whites near the Willis creek park area a week or two ago. Haven't heard much since.

Shut up and fish!

Just got off the phone with a buddy of mine that fished the first sand bar hole down from the steps today from 11-4pm. He made with 20 keeps, 2/3 of them being crappie! rest were whites. He said he threw back about 15 undersized fished. All caught on minnows under cork and most from 11-1pm. Goodluck!

Ok guys, when are we going to have a TFF gathering out there!!! I always go down there and don't know if the guy I'm fishing next to is in TFF or not! I think it would be fun if a group of us met up down there in the next week or two, had a bite at the DQ or something, and went fishing!

New to San Gabriel this year. Where exactly is Tejas? Trying to figure out all the lingo. I know the steps, Willis, and primitive boat launch but that is about it. I will be out Saturday early (6:30) and will park it near the steps, but if there isn't any action i wanted to do some exploring. Walking up and down the river.
