It sounds like they are trying to pull a fast one and scam you into thinking that if you do not buy it for more than you are willing to spend the other guy is going to buy it out from under you. That "other guy" if he does exist (and I don't think he does) just helped you out. I would NEVER buy a boat that I could not thoroughly check out and test on the water. Just take your time, there are tons of boats out there. You will find the right deal for you. This one wasn't it.

The best thing to do is take it for a lake test. That would answer many of your questions. It will probably need a new water pump impeller and lower unit lube but that is just precautionary on any boat. During the lake test check the livewell pumps, Lights, engine gauges, etc. This will tell you more than anything.

Anyone trying to make a living by having to sell something for more then it's worth (like cars and boats) has my deepest heartfelt sympathy but not my money. Buying anything "used" is always a gamble but the "value" is so subjective. Always try to identify and remove the "emotional" componet when buying cars or boats or the like and you will come out OK. A good deal is worth waiting for and the patient buyer seldom gets taken... Don't let any salesperson rush you into anything, chances are they will be the hungry ones tomorrow. "Wants" and "needs" are two different things.. you "want" the boat but they "need" as much of your money as they can possibly get! It is up to you to determine what you believe the boat is worth and pay no more then that. They know what they have in it and what profit they would like to make from the sale. If they are too greedy it won't sell if they sell it quickly then they sold it too cheap and feel they could have asked for more. It's a tricky business and I'm glad I'm not in it!
