It is not a little lake if you are an extreme green fisherman like me. I hike or bike, and fish, no motors. When the water is high and flooded 40 feet higher it is very tough to fish from shore. Now that the water is going down to 2008 levels, look out. In 2008/2009, I could easily catch 60 whites, 20 large mouths on a trip. My largest LM was 10 lbx 11 oz, my buddy caught one 11 lbs 2 oz. Hybrids are very large too. You can catch catfish or carp any time buy putting on a 1/4 oz weight with a large nigh crawler and just chunk it out and wait. Use a small treble hook without a weight with chicken liver as bait and drop it over a ledge and you may hook a giant hybrid. On the other hand, crappie are difficult form shore. I have only been into them one time casting a chartreuse tiny blade into a hole 60 ft out. I have fished many times and caught almost every cast while watching the boaters get upset since they seem to fish and motor away. The key to Georgetown is patience and keep casting.

BTW, it was just two weeks ago that I had the first successful fishing trip since the flood of Sept 2009. Caught 5 large mouths and two porker whites with my six year old. The last time we caught, every time I threw an academy h2o top water, I would get a hit from a white or a black. It was a blast.

BTW2, this year I am trying fly fishing. The river towards Tejas last year, even when flooded, was full of fly fishers catching whites.

GT is an often overlooked lake. It has good fish, scenic and not nearly as crowded as other lakes.

Lake has been pretty much at normal level for about 6+ months, so this spring ought to be a good one.

Could kick you, though.

dam and overlook mostly, last year I did the river by tejas. I haven't been to hogg or russell in a while. by the dam, shiners on a bobber will produce non stop black bass. whites by overlook.

Thanks for all the good information about the lake. I have only been on the lake 3 or 4 times now. I am going to try to take my 3 year old out tonight. Sounds like minnows or worms are going to be the best bet. Hope to give that snoopy pole a workout.

Glad to see some folks posting up about fish on Gtown. We have been boating there with the family lately in the center console and wanted to do some fishing. Would love to meet up!

I actually went today to cedar breaks park and it was very low. A bunch of small baitfish all around the shores. Was fishing the bottom with a worm while setting up a trotline. I put some rocks on the rod to make sure the rod didn't go in the water. After about 15 minutes I heard rocks moving and I looked over to see my rod going in the water, I hooked the fish and the fight was on after about 5 minutes it broke my string! I ha 15 pound line so it had to be big, I hope we get another one on our trotline tonight! Georgetown is more of a patient lake it can be really good at night for crappie but you have to have boat and lights , do georgetown is a decent lake.
