talked to the ranger there four days ago...he said that there are a few kitties in the deeper holes and that a few small crappies and whites had been caught downstream a few miles. one good downpour and some sunshine, like slab said, and they will start the run. i give it another three weeks until anything steady.

I booked every weekend in March for CBSP last week and they were mostly 75% full at that point. Get your seat now!

Anyone know if the boat ramp is open? Is the island above, at, or below water?

I don't like it out there when it gets crowded...too many idiots casting over your shoulder when you catch a fish. I reckon mid February is the best for me. Whites just aren't running out of Buchanan yet.

yep, it gets crazy on Saturdays but I walk about a mile or so up river, past the hike in camp and use a float tube to drift slow down the edges. I am all alone until I hit base camp. 50 on the stringer between my friend and I last time on minnows and chartruce rooster tail grubs. Late March 2005

Last year you couldn't walk that far up and still have water. It is a perfect place for float tubes. I use an inflatable pontoon and it works great. Beautiful place, but almost too well known. I have always had best luck in Feb. and fish the area around Paradise point when the fish are on their way back. Hopefully weekend after next there will be a few whites up there!

It is a zoo on the weekends. I'll be there during the week and up river from the state park. Launch the yak and tow the floating fishing platform. popcorn

just stay away during spring break and there is plenty of water to get away from the crowds. i have caught good numbers of fish there as early as the last week in january and as late as mid april before. it's a great place with good sized fish!

i always go during Spring Break. we have access to the Smith Ranch upriver from CBSP. all ya need is some waders, ultralight rod/reel, some crappie jigs and a stringer.

Heard 3rd party info that with Saturdays warmup some whites were caught yesterday. We just need sunshine and warm south winds.
