I can see the headlines now "porter Texas local shatters the old lake conroe record by 4lbs" sounds mighty fine to me... I have caught a few myself that I know would break the cedear creek lake record and threw them back But none bigger than the two pound range. I have heard of some 4lb hybrid yellow bass on either caddo or the sabine river just north of Toledo bend I think, so dont think I'm doubting you...Fork has some beauties too!

Keep in mind, White Bass and Yellow Bass can and do hybridize together.
A hybrid white/yellow bass in the 4-5lb range would be much more likely then an actual 5lb yellow bass, as they are usually a very small fish.
After all, the state record Yellow bass is less then 2.5lbs. But the state record Yellow/White hybrid is 4.75lbs.

i've caught a few yellow/white hybrids but most are full yellow

The all tackle world record for Yellow Bass is 2 lb 9 oz.

I've caught a 3.1 lber before in Louisiana (sobbing)....
I had no idea what the record was, but it was big enough to bother weighing. I then released it without a second thought as I did all those annoying boogers...
