I had Progressive "agreed upon value" boat insurance, and when Michael Bristow told them it was considered totalled due to a hole in the hull and some water damage as a result, I had a check for the full amount of the agreed upon value within 3 days, no questions asked.
Needless to say, I have Progressive again on my replacement boat. Second time, since my replacement boat is more expensive, they asked me to insure the fishing and electronics equipment separately, which I gladly did for $12k for boat and $5k for rods, reels, electronics, lures, etc. That way, if the boat doesn't go down to the bottom, they don't have to pay the extra $5k, which I think is fair.
If you don't get "agreed upon value", then any insurance company can argue with actual value of the boat & equipment. I doubt that Progressive would. I also know that State Farm replaced the lower unit of another TFF'ers big Skeeter when he hit a stump, no questions asked, but if I remember it took a little while to get the check because they made it to the boat repair place and to the boat owner and it took some doing to get it signed by both so it could be cashed.
When you buy "agreed upon value", YOU get to state what the value is, not the insurance company. That last post seems a little unfair to the good insurance companies and thus it does seem a little self-serving.

I just got a quote from Fishingforinsurance.com and they were more economical than my current All State. I will be switching soon.

only one I have ever used is State Farm. (972)231-1988 . hit a stump, they sent an adjuster out to verify the repairs.. then sent me a check in my name. I put it in the bank and wrote the check to the boat repair places.

Sorry if you took my reply as self serving...The point i was trying to make is pretty simple.

There are companies that will insure your boat based on "book" value. With that said, you can have 3 exact same boat models that are valued completly different. Condition of the boat mainly speaking but optional accessories or equipment can easily increase a boats value by thousands if your policy dose not include additional coverage endorsements for those features.

Most companies offer adaquate protection in general but i do see people on a daily basis that where sold a policy through the company who provided financing and they only took into account the ammount financed, sometimes leaving huge gaps in coverage.

I have been in the Insurance business a long time and i specialize in marine insurance. I have seen just about everything when it comes to coverage or lack therof.

I made the switch from another insurance company that I will not name to Progressive with Kevin Costlow from www.fishing4insurance.com and can tell you that I have more coverage including replacement tackle that I did not have before and my premium was over $250 less per year.Besides the fact that I saved money which is a good thing he is a fisherman and I believe in suppoting someone who believes in and gives back to the fishing community. Give him a chance to save you some money and he is a good guy to boot.

I have had Progressive on three of my boats and all of my vehicles including my new Triton that I have now. The agent stated that my policy will have full replacement cost of the boat. I didn't have to ask. If I sink it next week, I get a brand new one.

As for cost of the policy, my previous boat was purchased at 21K and ran me just under $500 a year. That was eight years ago. My new boat is more than double the first and the policy is not much more than the previous.

I have made claims through progressive in the past. Have always had a check within three days. My rates increased for a short time but then Progressive lowered them to the original rate without me having to go back and have the policy revisited.

In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with Progressive. They take care of their customers and as long as I own a boat or any other vehicle, Progressive will get my policies. That is unless they have a serious change in the way they do business.

Progressive has great New Boat replacement and make sure you get the Misc. gear if stolen added, and replacement up to 10,000 on fishing equipment added.

I have two boats on my policy, insured for 37,000 & 17,000. I pay around $550.00 a year.

My State Farm agent just informed me that State Farm will not renew my policy this year. I've had insurance with them since 2001 and had 2 claims. I guess it's time to start looking at Progressive.
