Are you able to reserve a campsite at Emma or is it first come first serve?

First Come, First Served. You have to have a tent on the site to show that it is inhabited.

You cannot call, ask what sites are open, pay with your credit card, then show up for your site...That would be too easy.

Are there campgrounds in the the DFW area where one can pitch a tent and fish right next to the water (as you guys do at Emma)?

What are the odds if you show up on a Friday morning? (I'm looking at going next weekend...25th - 27th).

I already have off work, the wifes coming along and a pet-sitter lined up...

Are there 'day use' areas that can be fished if the campsites are full?

there is a day use area that is easy to fish. and you can camp right across the road from there. I've slept on the bank in the day use area many times as well.

Friday at 7:00 am is your best chance to get one of the 11 sites on the water.

they begin to fill up fast from there.

Well, I may just do day use then as the wife is not thrilled about camping out in January...I may just get a hotel and hit the day use from open til whenever I decide to quit Friday and Saturday.

Since we both have off and want to take a road trip I am definately going somewhere outside the DFW area. If anyone has any other cool destinations that you would share let me know.

Sounds like a Chamber of Commerce slogan.

Brett, what happens if you venture too far from the DFW area? Turn into a pumpkin or something?

First, there's the problem with that court order. Second, there's the tracking bracelet on my ankle. Third, there's the occasionally blackouts when I drive....

Actually, I mainly do shorter, local sessions because they fit better into my schedule. I'm hoping to take the family camping somewhere out of town over Spring Break, but if there are campsites close by I might start to do an occasional Friday-overnighter.
