It's beautiful thumb ...and the ones I've eaten were quite tasty!

I hear ya on catching those Lake Travis record crappie. I believe that FishingFool40, BigChief, and myself all caught record crappie on LT last spring (and even the unlisted black crappie too), though probably not as many as yourself. They just make too good of a dinner wink You and I must share similar fishing philosophies - enjoy the trip and live for the fight.

Did you catch this one in the Pedernales?

Where do all of you Lake Travis Crappie fishermen fish on Travis? Is it all on docks or brushpiles, or is there some timber on that lake? Which end of the lake is best? Are there any good spawning areas for Crappie on Travis? I grew up fishing the muddy Dallas area lakes so I have avoided Travis since it is so clear. I've stuck with going to Granger since it is what I'm used to even though it is a longer drive.

WHERE TO FISH FOR CRAPPIE ON LAKE TRAVIS?

After researching and hunting for the last 10 years, they can be found under about every lighted marina or private dock on Lake Travis. One summer I caught crappie, while sitting out front of Carlos and Charlies, listening to music. The better locations are in the Pedenales river or up the river near Starke Dam. However, most of the crappie I catch are small. Only on occasions do I limit. Normally in fall and early springtime. Most of my fishing is with live minnows, however I have been practicing my jig bite lately. Most of the crappie right now, are about two cranks off the bottom. Most of the time, you have to give it a jerk or two or lift your rod tip, to get a reaction bite.
If you have a boat or kayak, I would try putting in at Camp Pedenales and look for bait on LCD or at least go to the mouths of creeks or coves. The white bass are running in that area too.

If bank fishing, well hope you can find a private dock owner and get to know him! Or fish off the Easy Street Marina, pay $5 and fish inside a fishing barge(Jonestown, Tx) OR find a local marina that allow you to fish off their docks/piers.

Nice Crappie, what percentage of the ones you catch out of Travis are of the "Black Nose" variety? My sister-in-law has a house right on the water there, and I might just have to pay her a visit.

Looks like so far Lake Travis, Canyon and Rayhubbard from this post. If anyone has cuaght these local please let us know.

I have probably caught several hundred of the "striped" black crappie over the last 25 years on Lake Travis. At first I thought they were unique, but the guys at the state fishery said they were just common black crappie. Since they seem to be all over, I guess they were right.
