Just a few questions for fishing off of High Island, or out og Galveston. How far are the closest rigs there? How long approx. to yak to them? I am going to buy an x-factor probably when i get home from Iraq. I live in liberty and will be fishign that area the most. What to expect to catch at those rigs? I have fished all my life just not out of a Kayak. Any help for this area will be helpful.

Also, if anyone has any good spots for winter time, yakkin for aroung the Anahuac wildlife reguge area, I could definitly use some direction. Any help is greatly appreciated. Not looking for anyones honey holes just some areas that usually produce.

My brother (Preacher) is there as we speak. He mostly posts on TKF. When he returns I'll get him to slip over here and answer.

Here's what he's up to down there:

Hey FishorDie,

I am hooked on BTB but haven't graduated to yakin out to the rigs yet. Sounds like fun for someone younger than I am. But, the TKF forum has a lot of guys, especially out of Corpus, that do that. Most of the guys that I fish with only go out from 1/4 mile to 1 mile unless they see something breaking the surface.

If you get into that make sure you have a good GPS, compass, and radio that has Coastguard channel. Also, NEVER GO ALONE.

Go to www.texaskayakfisherman.com/ and go to the BTB forum for these answers and more.

I don't have all the answers, but I'm a quick learner!

Old, you might say so. Dad was going to name me "Dirt" but God had just used it on something else so he called me "Hambone."

I was born the same day as Roosevelt declared WWII. Mom got excited and I was 2 months early.

Thanks guys for all the great replies. I am buying a new Kayak in the summer when I return from some place that resembles hell. (Iraq) I jsut don't know if there are any rigs close enough out of Sabine pass, or galvestonn to make the trip to. I would never venter in to wild blue yonder by myself. You always need a good "battle buddy" or a wing man for you air force guys.

Thanks for your service, bud. I would not consider myself a BTB pro, but I have landed quite a few Sharks, Jacks, Gafftop, and Bull Reds from my yak in the surf.

I spend most of my time fishing the bays and marshes for Trout and Reds. Send me a PM when you return from your deployment. I would be glad to try and put you on some fish. I live in the greater Houston area and fish just about everywhere from High Island to Surfside. Go Army! Whoooooa

Yes, thanks for your service from our house, too. I just put my son on a plane back to Ft. Lewis. Hambone and Hambone911 are old Army guys, too. When you get home we'll all get together at HI and fish. I'll bring the smoker and we'll camp, fish, eat, and fellowship. Lord Bless You and bring you home safe to the Great State of Texas (almost Heaven).
