How did she handle the fact that she killed the deer? I'm an avid deer hunter and have shot many deer but I still have a little remorse each and every time I kill one. Not saying I break down in tears or anything like that but out of respect for the animal I do feel a little bad every time. I feel anyone that does not feel this way shouldn't be hunting. With that being said and especially with your first deer, I am just wondering how she took it. If you feel so remorseful, why in the hell do you keep shooting them. barndoor You obviously don't hunt...... if you did you would know what I'm talking about. I don't feel like explaining it, maybe someone else will. Well, shut your trap! barndoor I understood his question very well. When I hunt, which isn't frequently, I always feel a little twinge of remorse (I get over it.). My daughter is an animal freak, and I'd wonder how she would handle it, too. Not sure why this set you off like it did, Barndoor, but it sounds like a dad wondering how his kids might deal with it--you need to lighten up.

huckleberry, i know what u mean. my wife doesnt hunt but she spends probably 10 days every season in my tower stand with me. she helps me out with the optics looking for deer and she become really good at judgeing if a deer is mature or not. but every time a pull the trigger, i'll look over at her and for a couple minutes she'll be looking at her feet. finally, last year i asked her about it and she told me that she just doesnt like watching the parts from bullet penetration to death. lets face it, u can make a perfect shot on a 120lb mature doe and she might kick for 10 seconds or so. thats the parts she doesnt like. BUT, i dont believe that u can say that someone shouldnt be allowed to hunt if they dont have those feelings. it doesnt bother me at all becouse i know the lord put deer on this earth for us to hunt. it was in his plan. about a month ago i was driving on some backroads and as i drove by i thought i saw an injured fawn on the side of the road so i turned around and went back. when i got back i found 3 fawn with bullet holes right behind the shoulder that some idiot had just dumped there to let waste. those are the types of people that shouldnt be hunting.

In this modern age we can and have removed ourselves from the distasteful part of providing food for our table. Those that choose to hunt or farm provide food for the table the way it has been done for thousands of years. Hunting is the last direct connection to nature that urban folks have left to experience but it is controlled by the laws of man not nature.
Feeling remorseful about killing something has less to do with hunting and more about knowing what it means to take life and the justification for doing so. I know I don't have any remorse for the cow that a hamburger from Sonic came from! Because we know more about the world around us it helps us understand the impact of what we are doing but doesn't change our basic human needs. Sometimes we have to do things that we don't like to do but are justified. The problem arises when the justification for any act doesn't work anymore as things change.
If you really want to open the flood gates on this subject then just try to explain where catch and release fishing fits into nature and the justification for it. I fish for entertainment 90 percent of the time and seldom keep what I catch. So I ask, what other species on earth plays with it's food like we do? Yes I am the pot calling the kettle black! I hunt, fish and eat meat but respect those who don't for reasons of their own. Natural resources must be used wisely and reasonable conservation efforts must be enforced or we will consume everything and end it for all of mankind. Thank God for our Farmers and Ranchers!
