Well I guess I am feeling well enough to be stupid again laugh JV4 and myself hit Texoma this morning. I talked to JD and he told me the birds have been strong and I could even be a hero because he had a trip already booked. So with a couple of sandwiches , mug root beers and binoculars we decided to give it a try. The only time I fish the BIG LAKE is with JD so I know nothing laugh We started out at 8:00 am and finished at 12:30 pm. Talked to JD this morning at 5:00 am and asked about the rain so he told me dont be a wimp , he promised it would not rain till after 12:00 pm laugh It did not rain but it sure SNOWED at SLEETED like hell all morning laugh Every time JV4 or myself would look at each other we just shake our heads and say IDIOT laugh Sleet was tough on the face when going across the water. Fished the island all morning. Found fish and caught fish laugh It was not that cold until we got ready to leave or we were just over pumped about the fish we caught. JV4 caught his personal Texoma best of 9.6 lbs and 31 inches laugh We caught a lot of overs and some great box fish. We seen JD and he was whacking fish left and right. We Kept a few for a fry tomorrow and released all others for another day laugh All fish caught on 4 inch wild eyes in 5-24 ft of water. It was fun and pretty awesome with the giant snow flakes. Not many boats out today laugh Did not have a camera but this is the cell phone picture.JD thanks for all the tips, you are the best laugh

Nice Fish! I will be on Texoma Monday morning, sure hope all the rain stops, or at least turns to snow. Looks like thats what it takes to get the big boys. Seeing that all I know is slabs, may I ask what a Wild Eye is. Thanks for the report guys..

John, I took your advice and stopped using those hooks. Thanks for your honest opinion.

Man, what a morning of fishing it was. Varner is right, we were idiots, but we were idiots that caught some nice fish laugh Thank you JD for the guidance, it looked like you were loading the boat with some really nice fish thumb Those guys on there with you were some lucky dudes grin

We were on a school of big boys for a few minutes with several of them busting the water. The conditions were tough but it was well worth it. Can't wait to get back up there for another go thumb

Oh and mario22 tunnel, a Wildeye is a type of swimbait. I was using 4" chartreusse and you can buy them almost anywhere. They cost about 3 dollars for a pack of 6. They don't last last long, but they work, very wellthumb

Well whether you like to admit it or not, winter fishing is just flat out the best type of fishing for quality fish! Like i like to say to anyone who will listen, "There's always another layer of clothing you can put on to get just that much more comfy in the winter. In the summer, once you get to nude, that's It! You're toasted either way you cut it!"

Good fish and cool pic with the big flakes swirling all around you!

Rudy

Yes, JV4, that is a nice fish! However, Does anyone ever wonder about the mental health of us fisherpersons? Fishing in the snow, no less. LOL
I have made a few inquiries about fishing today. No one seems to be interested.

Wow a great report from the lake, not sitting inside a BBQ
place and keeping warm, Don is right fishermen are nuts
getting out in all kinds of weather just to do their thing.
Or maybe we are normal and everyone else is off a little bit.

Yesterday's weather was Xtreme alright. But I'd join the "Idiots" if asked, hehe. Nice catch! The previous Saturday's weather was gorgious at Texoma, but we didnt catch any large ones like you guys did. I didnt have any luck with the 4" wildeye either. I can see the birds in the background...or those are HUGE snow flakes, hehe.

A week ago Saturday, did saw JD's boat catching fish all around the islands during the morning hours. And there was a bass boat with a couple of guys that kept following JD for most of the day. And then about 2ish saw those guys filming JD's boat at a close distance while the clients were reeling in fish. Whats with that JD? Some kinda documentary film you are making?

The kids in JD's boat were from a school that TFFer "FishingWith Kids" teaches at and books a trip for them with JD. That was "FishingWithKids" in the bass boat and those were the kids with JD - he was just filming some memories for those kids.

I just learned that after seeing JD at the cleaning station and I wish I would have had the chance to met FishingWithKids and THANK an obviously great teacher!!!
