I thought that I had gotten it from Doc Bruce Samson's site but I couldn't find it earlier. I looked again and found it. Here is a link to it.

Thanks everyone,

Don I am primarily trying for whites and hybrids. I got a kitchen pass for this Sunday afternoon and me and a couple of my buddies are going to hit Lewisville all afternoon trying to get on some whites or hybrids. I will definately take your suggestion.

JJEN, thanks for the tutorial, I need all the help I can get!

I just watched a sonar dvd and they said something that was very interesting. They put it in an analogy that I could understand. In order to see, you slab, the vertical pixels are very important. He stated that if you were in 100 ft of water and you had vertical pixels of 100 then each pixel represents 1ft of water. If two fish were side by side, you could not see the separation. But the more you increase the vertical pixels, say 200, then now each pixel represents 6in and so forth as the pixels increase. The better your picture and the better you are able to interpret what you see on the screen. This also tuned me into the fact that it would be important to have more vertical pixels.

just a thought.

That is a good way to think of it. I did just change from a Lowrance x71 to a Eagle 320. If I recall correctly the x71 had 160 vertical pixels. So the Eagle should show twice the detail.

BP,

I was teaching a youngster the other day on Fork with kinda the same problem.

I had him cruise in between the pilings on the 515 bridge at different speeds of the boat.

The bridge has cross members that form H's under the water. The slower he went, the better he understood where an object was in relation to the transom mounted transducer.

He learned that adjustment of chart speed is just as important to help see real time objects, instead of a time delay of sorts.

I recomment to all new users to goto a beach area and learn what a hard sand looks like. Or what dam rocks looks like on screen. Does this give you a thin line, as hard bottom?

Graphing known objects will give you simple understanding of some objects. Time on the water and use is the other. Graph what hydrilla looks like in the shallow, at the same time, play with sensitivities and such to see the difference.

Take a Xmas tree or two and sink it in an area you can use it for graphing to see what bushes or brush looks like.

Deciphering what you see is critical.

Hope some of this helps someone.

matt

Well, I was planning on trying some of Ernest's tips on bridge fishing for some crappie while I was out on Sunday as well so I think I'll try the bridge crossmember trick whilst I'm there.
