Just my update for Thu/Fri fishing in Galveston:

Thursdays fishing was a bust due to dead starter on the engine, but still resulted in a 33" Red being caught.

Thursday night's trip to the 61st Pier was an interesting eye opener. HUGE Reds were being caught on both ends of the T regularly with as many as 3-4 of them being faught at a time.

I caught one in the middle of the T, as well as one of my neighbors had his pole yanked in the water when he walked away to get larger poles. I was able to hook his pole and get it back, but the gear was too light to get the fish in.

Friday: My son and I split the day into two trips. Water was too rought to get past the end of the Jetties, so we fished the boat cut, caught 2 sharks close to 3 feet in length. We headed in to shore for a knap. Our second half was from 3-6pm and we hooked 2 NICE Reds, one 43" and the other was 40". We backed those up with 3 more sharks in the 3' range too.

We are going to head out tomorrow morning at 7am, and this time we are going to push past the end of the Jetties again. We've both promised a lot of people Shark Steaks and so far we are about 15 pounds of steaks short of our target and our trip ends tomorrow between 12 and 1...

Friday morning

Friday Oct. 11th . You ever caught so many fish your arms ached? We arrivied on Galveston Fishing Pier at 6 pm . At 6:05 I lost a bullred fishing in 2 ft of water. frown My wife and I caught 3 oversized reds (which we released) . We caught 5 keepers reds , biggest about 10 Lbs. We also got 5 Keepers drum , biggest being 12 Lbs . We had 1 oversized drum and about 20 undersize . My wife caught 2 nice 4-5 lb gaftop, and 2 real nice gulf trout (3lbs 3 oz biggest) The big golden croaker where running . We keep 20 of the biggest (1 1/2 lbs - 2 1/2 )My wife caught a monster croaker (3lb 7 oz ) It hit like a 10 lb red . We also met several new people on the pier and had a great time .

I just got home from Galveston, and today was amazing with the Reds. My son and I ventured out in our 19' CC, and hit a stretch of Reds that kept both ends of the boat busy, as well as a number of crosses in the middle.

Out of 17 Reds caught today, the smallest was 32" and largest 46" and all that was before 12:30 when we left them biting hard to head back to shore and to Dallas.

If you want to talk about arms aching, try having a Shakespear Tidewater 6'6" Medium action rod bent into a U shape repeatedly with 40 pound test line being pulled off the reel at lightening speed....

Then have that happen 3-4 times an hour, almost as fast as you could put the line back in the water. My son and I did this straight for almost THREE hours today.... I was begging for a break (and not my pole).

My son and I were using Quantum BD20XL's on 7' Medium Heavy rods strun with 30# mono, but the 7' rod gave the fish a lot of leverage, and the way the fish would run with the drag seemed a bit much for these rigs so we switched to our Shakespear Tidewater 6'6" Medium rods with Okuma CV45L and 40# mono.

The Tidewaters have the rollers on the tip which "SEEMS" to make it a little smother on the line, and the rod seems a little stiffer than the chinese made medium/heavy on the other setup.

With both rigs we used 6' of 200# mono leaders with 10/0 J hooks. We used a swivel to connect the leader to the line and a 3-5oz sliding egg weight above the leader.

For bait we had better luck along the Jetties using Squid, but off shore where we run into the schook of them we were using chad about 6-8" cut in half.

The fight w/ the Reds off shore would take 3-5 minutes to get them to the boat, and another couple on deck for photos (I'll get the photos on my blog in the next couple of days.)

Fishing Report for October 13-14 10pm-6am

It was a slow day, everyone seemed to be having a hard time to be catching some pan fish.

There were alot of reds being pulled in saw some kid pull in a huge one (did not ask about weight)

Did see a couple flounder, was able to catch a decent size.

Also caught a dozen or so sand trout and whitings.

Hello everyone,
Sorry for the late post.
My buddies and I went down to Galveston on Sunday, 10/14/2007 to find out if we can catch a couple of salt water fishies (: ... We got to beachfront around 6AM and see the water was way too choppy and winds was blowing to the bank way too hard. So we left and went to Seawolf park. There we found the bay was a little calm. We waded out with the rest of the local and fish for flounders with jigs. We caught only 4 keepers after about 3 hours of jigging, but we manage to catch pretty close to 25 small males (that is what the local said). There was no tide in or out that day.
By the way if you haven't notice, we all from Dallas and we sux at catching flounder, but we are learning each time to go there from the local.

HELLO MR. BOB

Hope to go back there next weekend,

Stay safe,

Neal -=-

Four of my friends went down to Galveston again on Sunday, 10/21/2007. I couldn't go, I had to finish up replacing sliding door with French doors. They slaughter flounders in the bay, but they all small males. They only brought home 10 flounders out of the four of them. There were no tide in or out. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE TIDE? Does anyone know the tides for this weekend? We, (I and a few buddies) are heading back to Galveston for some more flatties. Hopefully more female flattieswill show up after this cold front coming through.

Hope to see you all the fishing hole,

*Stay safe and Keep healthy*

We left Dallas around 1:30AM on Sunday morning and arrive at Galveston around 6:25AM Sunday morning. We got our wader on and start fishing around 7AM. Fishing was really slow. There were like 50 to 100 fishermen in the water. Didn't see the first fish caught until around 8AM. Ask the local what is going on with fishing today and one of them reply with "there was a guy caught 30 keeper flounders on Saturday", but today fishing is really slow.
We fish from 7AM to 7PM and end up with only 20 keepers between the 4 of us. Left the fishing hole and went to get something to eat and head for home. Got home around 2:30AM. Woke up at 7AM and head to work until now (yes I am at work) ...

We were a day late again,
Oh well, that's fishing, it's always a hit and miss.
