In the winter we tie a deceiver fly - red thread, white body, pearl flashabou on the back 18"-30" above a Humbug. The humbug has a (white/red head) white tail tied on it with red thread. We jig this combo off humps in 18-24 ft water. Only 170 fish in 4 hrs one afternoon.

Hummdingers have a lot of uses. Slab with them, troll, cast at surface action and you can dead stick 'em in the Winter. Mostly I use them when I believe the sandies are suspended in the area. Medium cast on a baitcaster and try different depth in the water column. Another use is to re-locate a school of fish that have wondered off the spot. Fan cast around, slow roll it off the bottom and whammo. You can cover a lot of mid-depth bottom quicker than you can TM around looking with electronics. I find them quite often. A must for any serious sandy/hybrid fisher. any time i move the boat to get back on top of the school i drifted off of.... i troll my baits. often catch a goodun

There are alot of decent slabs out there--the cabelas brand is good--the saltigas are awsome if your rich--Mondo(XYZ) and Greg(Proline220) make slabs now and I've seen them in action--main thing is just finding one you are confident with. I know the Cabelas ones catch--I saw a bunch of slabs that looked like TNTs but different manufacturer at a tackle shop on Jacksboro hiway in FtWorth today. Lead baby slabs are good as well. Buy a couple of each until u find some you like then load up/

I used to have problems with 'em wrapping the line around the spinner but got some good advice here (I think from Ron C?), anyway ever since, nary a problem.......feather the line at the end of the cast so it stops short just before hitting the water, and raise your rod tip as you take up slack, then let it sink to desired depth. Also, make sure the wire holding the spinner and/or tail hook bends upwards very slightly.
TNT slabs & humdingers - I don't remember using anything else this year.

what is comparable to the tnt slabs since they are no longer in production? I've had pretty good luck with the Silver Dollar slabs from BassPro. Mando will tell you that the paint jobs on 'em are pretty bad and he's right but the fish haven't seemed to care.

I use HD's occassionally, but I prefer to use TNT180's. If the sandies are on top in shallow water, I'll use top waters. If they are on top in deeper water, I'll use a 2 oz TNT 180 and fish underneath the schooling sandies to get to the hybrids. HD's though, are a solid lure that yield good results, for sandies. It's a good lure to have in your box.

Shadtree-- Its that Pro-Am store off of Roberts Cut Off (I think thats the same) about 1 block east of 820 on 199--take RCO road about 50 yards and you'll see Blue Top then the ProAm.

The six old geezers prunepicker slabs are identical to the TNT's and are a proven fish catcher. These are a substitute for the TNT's when they are not availible. His paint scheme is not as elaborate. I make some identical to the prunepicker for my own use and give a few to my best fishing friends. Look Here

I think he only is selling the 2oz version, I know he doesnt like making a bunch of different baits up. I also know he has a few with ch/white with a silver holographic strip as well. I dont know if he has many left, but I do know he has 'em, cause I cut the tape for them Ron is a good guy, and if memory serves me right he showed me his inventory. He has plenty in stock and will ship really quick.

TNT slabs & humdingers - I don't remember using anything else this year. They can be tough to use with superbraids like Fireline. I solve that problem with about a foot of flourocarbon leader. Flouro is stiff enough that you wont get it wrapped around the spinner like you do with superbraids. I wouldnt fish without them... Dave

EXCELLENT LURE, AND I AGREE THEY WITHSTAND A LOT OF USE. THE PAINT HOLDS UP REAL WELL. I KEEP ONE TIED ON A ROD ALL THE TIME.
