Are you just walking down the bank, or actually wading farther down?
And which side of the river? The side by the parking lot, or the opposite one?

I was just walking along the bank, I was on the side opposite the parking lot. There were two vietnamese guys on the parking lot side who were able to cast right into the middle of all the action; fish every time. I got on the very back of some of the big schools and caught some under hybrids, but am still lookin for the big boys It was where the river takes a right turn, past the bend all up and down that stretch about 300 yards.

They'll work. But you'll go through a dozen of them.

I was out there Sunday afternoon, fished on the parking lot side. Started at the Camp area, fished there for about an hour, fish on every other cast or so. Nothing too big, but fun on a light rod and reel, especially fighting the sandies against the current. Moved down a little further, not as much luck but still caught fish. Ended up with somewhere between 15-20 fish over 2 hours, probably 4-5 keepers had I been keeping any, but I don't. Did see a couple of asian fellows with a cast net and a basket full of under sized sandies... shoulda called the lady at the office.....

I used to get poison really bad all summer when I lived in PA, but since moving to Texas I've only managed to get into it twice.

LOL Lite-Liner, ouch.
I guess you guys who've only just started going there don't realize that you're not looking at the "normal" water level.
Lately, it's been in the range of 3500cfps, but the "normal" water level is closer to...about 350cfps.
So you're fishing areas that used to be well above water, and yeah...that place is loaded with poison this and that lol.
Be careful out there!
Sonfish - Llela varies greatly by the day, and that's why I love it. Some days you'll catch tons of White Bass, some days you won't see a single white bass but you'll catch buffalo on crappie jigs all day long, etc.
It's awesome.
Also, it's only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and not open at night.
