I have Optimas and really like them. You might try searching the forum. You should find a lot of discussion on this topic.

There have been several posts on this subject recently - below is one of them.

I buy the cheapest batteries that have the "AMPERAGE" rating I am looking for - and I replace them every 1 - 1.5 years and it is still cheaper then buying the high dollar batteries that might last 3-4 years.

Best is a personal choice. I prefer Delco Voyagers. Long life, maintance free and great reserve.

I just bought Trojan SCS-225. They have a 225 minute reserve capacity at 25 amps. I have had them out once and was pleased with the staying power.

If people focused on important issues, there would be a shortage of fishing poles.

I don't pay much attention to brands of batteries. I just look for at least 200 reserve amps. I keep them charged and watered.

The last set I took out after 4 years and gave them to a friend. It has been a year and a half and he is still using them. Properly maintained batteries will last a long time.

Just got new TM batteries myself. I got Walmart brand Everstart Maxx 205min reserve. That is what I took out of my boat after 2 1/2 years of use. I also had one of these in a pond boat for about 6 years. They cost about $67 and have a 18mo. warranty. I don't think you can beat the price or quality. Trojan's are great, but they cost about twice as much. I did get an Optima for the starting battery, since all of my electronics are on it. BTW are you the RedRanger on Coach's ffl that I traded Steve Smith to?

I like the Everstart batteries. If I remember right they actually have a 3yr Free Replacement and an additional 3yr pro-rated warranty for a total of 6yrs. Plus for the price (>$80ea.) they work well. I have mine hooked up to my Dual Pro charger all the time, I think the 'smart' charger keeps them conditioned and like new. I heard from the guy who owned the boat before me that he would replace TM batteries every year, but he would let the batteries charge and then disconnect them. I prefer them to stay hooked up all the time so that they are always being monitored and charged as necessary. My opinion is that it extends the life of any battery you buy. I just like the Everstarts because of their good performance and outstanding warranty.

Optimas all the way!!! I'm on 4 years and no problems, used to replace batteries every year. Cost vs. longevity, I'll take the latter.
