loopty, you sound like you have had to deal with this kind of thing before. my aunt and uncle have lost a honme to a hurricane. its no joke. i already told the boss that if this thing hits texas, im packing up the tools and heading for the coast. i dont want to see the texas coast end up like new orleans.

I have a medical reason that could put me in bad bad trouble if a hurricane hit close. Plus, I have been realy trying to get a job since I got layed off and I think that I got my dream job. However, if the Hurricane hits before I start, there might not be a job to come back to. We have prayed and prayed for this job and now things are a little nerve racking for me.
BTW, Im not irrate or mad at anybody, just thought that the concerns could have gone out to the people along the coast and not fishing trips. I fish more than anybody, and love to do it, but when things like this come along fishing seems pretty small. I used to pray for hurricanes, because Im a surfer and wanted the waves, but now that I am older I think differently. Though the waves are nice, someone will pay for those waves amd I would rather them be okay than surf. Rita gave me the best waves I ever surfed but it also wiped a town off the map. Id gladly give back every wave.
I think it is real easy to say, "Well, thats just life on the coast" or something, when you are not sitting there on your roof top. I have lived on the coast for 25 yrs and that has never been part of my life nor do I want it to be. My family settled here back in the early 1900s and are all farmers and ranchers. This area is all I know and I have roots here so getting up and leaving is not an option. Also, Im typeing on the TFF but later today we are moving everything out of my house on the Island and into storage at my parents about 30 miles inland. We were moving out anyways but are doing it early just in case.
There is no reason for anybody to be rude. Im not mad or that upset but am a little fearfull of all this for many reasons. Sometimes things get typed wrong and come accross wrong but all I ment was for people to realize that fishing should come 2nd to the people in this things path. Is that wrong??

Man everyone seems a little touchy. That hurricane is not coming any where near the texas coast and the only part of texas that might see anything from that storm will be in the brownsville area. fishing will be fine for those of you that are worried about it. and for loopty loop i am glad that you can find time to surf with your medical condition, but then again looking at your profile i see that you live in the bluff. that explains a lot.

Hey LL! Your posts would probably had been better received had you started a new thread. The original poster was just looking for experienced comments from those that have been in his position. I empathize with your situation -and all of my friends on the coast- and hope the best for you as Dean's forecasted path gets more accurate.

I lived in Laredo when Allen hit in 1980 and later Gilbert in 1988. Loopty you must have been about 5 years old when Gilbert hit right? The rains were mana for heaven for us among the South Texas ranching community, but devastation for the coastal folk.
Loopty move inland and if you need a place to stay you are welcome on our place and can use one of the guest houses we have.
Loopty it is always something hurricanes for you and tornados for us.. At least the hurrucanes heed a warning unlike tornados. If you wnat to feel panic and desperation you should see folks scramble when the sirens go off in our hood.
Take care and keep safe
