Thanks Steve. Appreciate the feedback RB. Why do surgeries always start at 5am? Aren't there any night owl surgeons? If you can't eat or drink after midnight you damn sure don't want a 11 am surgery. Been there done that.

I've got to have mine removed, too. I've got several stones and sludge (didn't know sludge was a thing till now). I also have a 9cm hiatal hernia. Going to get both fixed/removed at the same time if I can get the surgeon to call me back. The first surgeon I saw said the hernia was too complicated for him since I had a gastric sleeve done about 10 years ago. So he referred me to another surgeon whom I saw a month ago. He wanted to review the upper GI I had done to see if it was my stomach or intestines that were causing the hernia. He hasn't called me back, and won't return my calls. I just got back from my pain management doc this morning, and he's going to refer me to a general surgeon friend of his. So hopefully I can get this krap fixed.
Good luck with your surgery TBS.
Also, they start early, like someone said, so you don't have to go all day PNO (no food or water). Also, so they can get a couple surgeries done in a day see their recoveries, and get back to the office to bang their hot nurses.

I had my gallbladder removed and a hernia repair done at the same time - was able to go back to work the next day- albeit, my job didn’t require much physical exertion.
Fought the when you have the slightest hint you need to poop you best find one ASAP - fought that battle for about a year - I too, will skip breakfast and lunch routinely and pay for it when I finally eat so be cautious of that.
Good luck as I put up with excruciating pain episodes about once a month for probably a year - my former physician had diagnosed me with acid reflux - sheeeesh!

Had mine out in 1983. Still can’t eat a few things (like iceberg lettuce) without it running through me. You will find out what you can tolerate after the surgery.

My wife's ruptured during surgery or right before I can't recall exactly. But anyways she had stone that got lodged in the bile duct and had to go under the knife twice in 2 days.

Should be laproscopic or better yet Da Vinci. I have had both and a real bad hernia repair with Da Vinci was a piece of cake.

The surgery is nothing, piece of cake. Moving forward, make sure you are near a toilet after you eat. Especially in the morning for me; as soon as I eat for the first time I have about 10 minutes before I gotta go. You'll notice certain foods mess you up more than others; mine is marinara/pizza/Italian food for some reason.

Arrived at the hospital about 5am. Got through pre-op by six and on the table by 7:30. Woke up about 9am in post-op with four cuts in my abdomen and was out of the hospital by 12. Got home and found the biggest challenge was getting in and out of bed. I didn't realize how much you use your core muscles for such mundane activities. I guess I over stressed a little and started getting spasms at every cut. I've had broken bones, kidney stones and three herniated disks and the pain from the spasms was up there with any of them. That lasted about 30 minutes, and then I let my son help me in and out of bed. Woke up this morning and was doing a lot better. Mostly just sore on the left side where they pulled the gallbladder out. Able to get into the bed by myself but still needing a little assistance getting out. The Dr told my wife my gallbladder was very inflamed and it was a good thing I had it removed when I did. Good luck with your surgery Ratz don't mess around and wait, and have some young strong help handy just in case. John

Might want to see what they really removed.

Also, I'm not sure who is talking about it being a piece of cake and resuming normal activities after a day or two but I can assure you that's not the case. I'm no stranger to high levels of pain, you will be down for at least 4-5 days. Instead of being a smart [censored] you might want to listen to someone you just went though it since it sounds like you're going to be having it done in the near future.

The made two very small incisions for my appendix. Surprised how much it hurt after.

The made two very small incisions for my appendix. Surprised how much it hurt after. I’ve had 23 surgeries since oct of 2008, one was my appendix. it’s was done with Three incisions I think and it hurt more than any of my 4 brain surgeries or eye surgeries or any thing else. They couldn’t give me enough fentanyl while i was in post op. Just if you were wondering it was #3 of them.

you don’t realize how much you use your stomach muscles. I about died when I had to cough. I’ve got a pretty high pain tolerance too.
