Joe Jackson has been dead for 75 years. It's difficult to induct somebody into the HOF 50 or 100 years since they have played. They were great for their time, but the game has changed and players have improved a lot. There will probably be people voting that never watched Pete Rose play, nevermind Joe Jackson.

I've never understood the big deal about him not being in the HOF. He knew the consequences when he bet repeatedly on games. Time to move on.

He is dead, it doesn't matter at this point.

He is dead, it doesn't matter at this point. Sadly, you're spot on... The HOF voted after the fact that players on the Permanently Banned List were ineligible for the hall... But at the time, and to this day they displayed balls, bats and uniforms Pete Rose used and wore... All his accomplishment are on full display... Even MLB continued to tout his records... But the franchises he played for couldn't display his name, or number in their stadiums... When the Reds wanted to celebrate the Big Red Machine's 15, 20, 25 year anniversaries they had to petition MLB to allowed Pete in the stadium and on the field... Yet when MLB wanted to celebrate the All Century Team well... Baseball pretty much died (my opinion) in 1994 with the players strike and the owners response... Up until that point we always went to games, had the radio on in the garage, in the car radio... Now I'm pretty much indifferent... Oh well if he does... Oh well if he doesn't... Dan

it probably matters to his family.

I caught the tail end of Pete's legacy and the tainting he did to it. I was young and could see he was talented as a player. As a coach, he really screwed the pooch with the betting. I'm kind of torn on this. But I agree, now that he's dead, it's more of a courtesy to the family than it is to Pete.

Yes, MLB handled this very difficult situation the best they could.
