Not here to argue but how are they going to cut him after the season ? He is a free agent after the season.
NFL players become free agents start of the next year, in this case March 2026. This year it was March 25th. So they could cut him before March (which would be the nice thing to do) or let him become a free agent in March, either way Cowboys would get a compensatory 3rd round pick in 2027. If they don’t resign him. I guess I do not get what the benefit would be by cutting him after the season is over versus just letting him become a free agent, either way the Cowboys would get a compensatory pick, and that pick is not necessarily going to be a third rounder, it depends on other things happening, hopefully it will be if they decide to move on from him. My point was that they get a 3rd round pick back if they keep him for just next season.

... I think he is making 3-4 M now so you add another 30M to it and divide it by two. Pickens is gonna want to make way, way, way more than $30 million per year after his rookie deal expires... Like the rest of the top receivers in the league he's gonna want to be the highest paid non Qb in the league... Ya think Jerry overpaid Dak, wait till he pulls out his checkbook and writes a check for more than $40.25+ million per year for Pickens... Dan I don't think Jerry will write a big check for him unless he puts up some great numbers. Pickens will have to earn it.

My guess is a one year rental with a #2 WR in next year's draft. Yep, most likely. Need your WR#2 to be on a rookie contract, and hopefully he becomes your next #1 and let your high $ veteran #1WR walk. It's all about managing the cap and having success in the draft, and I think the cowboys (Will McClay) does pretty good job with this. Although he has not done very well with his #2 picks and I get the impression evaluating QB's is not his strength. They got lucky with Dak, they wanted Paxton Lynch or Connor Cook.
