I'm about to head out myself with my son. If you see us say hi, we will be the ones moving around the lake in an old vintage VIP boat that's painted black with red paints streaked and splattered all over. Can't miss us if you see us! Good luck guys!

Lake has come up almost 2ft since yesterday. If your looking for catfish go up to trophy club park at the mouth of denton creek to the lake. After rain like this the catfish guys whack em here. Me and mason have caught 40+ pound catfish here (in the canoe). Fishing shallow for cats after a good rain is some of the most fun you can have while fishing.

I caught a nice flathead there when it was flushing last year. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/05/full-16894-268327-1000001044.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/05/full-16894-268328-1000001045.jpg)

Thanks for the tips - didn't check the thread before we went out
Dropped jugs in the lake fork guy spot and
We just got back
Ended up with 2 nice 3-4 lb blue catfish and 3 sandies for dad. We caught probably 50 or 60 but lots of small ones. I wasn't following way points today just my senses
Caught most of them inside meadowmere park area
We went to the two way points brent linked earlier east of the island. I saw fish and we tried to get them to bite mal heavy, rooster tail, crappie jig shad profile on 1/8, nada
I am in a rush right now so no time for the pics
Ray roberts tomorrow

I fished today from 7-2. We started at Murrell and it was a ghost town. So we headed to Twin Coves based on Prosise's comments (Thank you) and there were a lot of Sand Bass there. I tried to get a good picture of the graph but they didn't cooperate but I did get this to give you an idea of what we found. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/05/full-122440-268352-graph2.jpg) While there were a lot of fish, most were small. Maybe 1 in 8 were keeper sized. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/05/full-122440-268353-sb2.jpg) My neighbor got doubled up several times. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/05/full-122440-268355-double2.jpg) The fish stayed for well over an hour and when they stopped biting, we went down to the crusher to check the humps North of it. There was nothing there. We did check a few brush piles for crappie while we were in the area and then headed back to Twin Coves to see if anything changed - it hadn't. So we went back to Murrell and found some fish. There were not the quantity of fish that we found earlier at Twin Coves but overall they were better fish. Still a mix of sizes but more keepers. A few bigger fish were in the mix as well. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/05/full-122440-268356-sb1.jpg) The fishing was a bit slow but steady. Just when you thought they were done, another school would swim by. Another hour plus spot. On the way back to the ramp, we checked the area at the entrance to Meadowmere and found a few fish. Again, a mix of sizes. We fished until 2:00 and the fish were still biting but had to head out. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/05/full-122440-268357-meadowmere.jpg)

We got to meadowmere to catch some shad before daylight They were there and we got enough to bait a couple of jugs several times We went over to the mouth twin coves right away and dropped two jugs with 1 shad each. There were fish in the area but they wanted none of our crappie jigs or rooster tails. The jugs were untouched after about 30 minutes and we had no bites. I also left my phone. I didn't have a high schooler with me, so I had to run back to the truck to get it. We packed up the jugs and shot over to meadowmere and dropped them around the pin. In that cove, there were lots and lots of small sandies. We were catching them one right after the other and they even had water boiling back there at one point. We went and got the phone and when we got back, dad was ready with the net We were hoping for and took two nice blues about this size. The blue catfish this size at grapevine are some of the best eating catfish I have ever tasted. We caught numerous sandies trolling that closeby marked point with rooster tails. We would hang up with one each pass south to north. At one point I was following (on FFS) what I thought were crappie because of the vertical stacked position. We kept getting bites on crappie jigs and thought surely we had finally found the small crappie Nope, turns out they were tiny sandbass and you needed a 1/32 and 1.5 inch profile to get them. They enjoyed being caught with ZZ top blasting. Here's the final pics of the day. I got to take my dad fishing on grapevine and we had a productive day. Dad took the beautiful catfish filets. My mother in law requested a few whole white bass. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/05/full-49806-268369-1000000983.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/05/full-49806-268370-1000000984.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2025/05/full-49806-268371-1000000985.jpg)

Grapevine is now 5.2 over full pool from the rains we have had in the last week. It came up around 4.5ft this week, and will likely go up some more with the inflow from upstream. Bridgeport is full, and running over the spillway with 9400 cfs (cubic feet per second) of water. Eagle mountain is releasing 3200 cfs into lake worth. Word from one of the other threads in the bass section of the forum is that Worth will be closed today, and maybe through the week from the high flows of water. The upper end of Lake Worth is a wildlife reserve and super shallow, will likely push allot of that silt down which will actually help make it easier to navigate into the nature reserve for bass fishing. Me and my fishing mentor went last fall and it was super shallow & like chocolate pudding mud. Even with his big motor tilted up he got crud into his cooling system. As Grapevine was designed as a flood control lake it will likely be a while before they let water out of the lake, and will wait for the others to settle down before doing so. Bass bite will get tough, as the green fish absolutely love the brush. Being 5ft over pool pretty much puts all the scrub brush around the lake nearly underwater. If you are looking for a green fish, I would recommend starting a couple hours before sunrise. Fish your normal spots, and enjoy the lake all by yourself (and possibly that boat that looks like mine). Nearly all my biggest fish come around 1hr before sunrise. At night throw black/blue or all black. The darker color makes it easier to see the lure against it's background than a bright color. At the first glimpse of the sun peeking out, I go super shallow. At sunrise it's white or bone for me on a moving bait (spinnerbait/squarebill/topwater). Still a bit early for topwater (in my opinion) but it never hurts to try. Right now I have been throwing a 1/2oz white double willow spinnerbait with a kaitech trailer and a free trailer hook. Free trailer hook: meaning input the big eye of the trailer hook on the spinnerbait hook, and then install a piece of rubber/plastic to keep the hook from falling off. I want the hook to move freely, and helps connect if a fish short strikes the bait. I am alow rolling this around brush, and to me the key is to slow down and actually make contact with the bottom or the brush. Rule of thumb for me, if your not getting hung up your not fishing it right. Believe me, the spinnerbait is pretty weedless but does get snagged. A trick to getting many lures unhung is to grab the line going to the bait and pull it tight with your hand, and let the line pop out of your hand like you were pulling on a guitar string really hard. This will get it unsnagged allot, but getting close and shaking the rod will get it pretty much 99% of the time. On rock bluffs you can't get close enough, as the fish will snuggle up close to the rocks at night. Big rocky areas collect allot of heat during the day, and these areas will have warmer water in the spring. When summer hits, the fish will be seeking the cooler more oxygenated water. Anyhoo, it's a spinnerbait for me until around 9-10am on cloudy days, and maybe earlier on clear days before i will change to a soft plastic. Fish are in the brush, and during the day you want to focus on the dark areas in the water around the brush. My fishing mentor reminded me of something yesterday, as all the brush being underwater will cause the leaves to die. This will get to a point where the bass won't like it (they will be close, but not up inside the bush). You can't flip at a bush enough, he said he would flip 5-6 times before a bite in the last week. We fished together last week and in a particular area he pounded one bush, and when the boat was rotated I flipped into that bush and caught one. Sometimes it's the bait change that might cause a fish to bite. Me and him had 29 bass on Tuesday of last week, and I had 5 overs by lunch on the white spinnerbait. (For the record) I did loose 3 overs at the boat because we were fun fishing. They like the spinnerbait , but the areas we patterned were really strange. Pay attention to the area you catch a bass in, and pay attention to the water color, and wind direction in that area. You can duplicate that location in many other areas of the lake. Still should be able to whack the catfish up in trophy Club park, if you have a cast net you should be able to catch shad at any boat ramp on the lake at night. The ramp at trophy club will be chocolate milk but likely have bait and you wont get your net hung up (during the day). Jug lines can be placed as close to the bank on main lake as they are up feeding on any bait that might still be working the shad spawn (north side of the lake). Didn't see a lick of bait from dove to the dam on the south side of the lake last week. It's all on the north west bank areas. The upper end is a forest right now, so we are going to be overloaded even more with bait in the next year with these conditions during the shad spawn. The mouth of all creeks on the north bank are good right now for all fish, as bait it close. With such a drastic water change in the lake be careful, and patient as there will be allot of debris floating around. I will prob not fish up past twin coves this week, and let the water settle down. There is a free bass tournament on the lake today (classic Chevrolet) that was rescheduled from a couple weeks ago. You might see more fishing traffic today by the green fish hunters.
If anyone knows of a young fisherman (neighbor, friend, etc) that loves to fish and doesn't have much. Ping me and if their parents approve we can try and reward them for good grades, good manners, etc. I have some extra stuff that would make someone happy. Be on the lookout for someone that the family might not be setup financially as well as they want to get something for their youngster. Even young adults that are running lean are good candidates. If you have an old shimano reel (baitcast or spinning) that doesn't work well or you don't use let me know. I can service them and gift them to new anglers that dont have much. Also, rods that might have a tip missing, or a broken eye (i can replace missing guides or install a tip eye with one to make it work). Any fishing pole is better that no fishing pole. If it's a walmart two piece special, i try and stay away from theseas they are too flimsy for a practical application.
Take care all.. one more work day before I can wet a line.
