He campaigned on them in 2016, 2020 and 2024... He enacted tariffs in his first term over 4 years ago... Some people just love to forcast doom and gloom... Dan

On a policy level- do you think we should allow other countries to tariff us and we not reciprocate?

My wife and I spoke about this last night. I'm convinced one of the things NOT being mentioned with this entire exercise is his desire to ELIMINATE the IRS.

So the tariffs are threefold in my opinion: 1) get the US back on an even playing field. For too long politicians didn't care or chose to simply not do anything while other countries profited from unfair trade practices with the US. Shielding their own industries and propping up their own economy 2) get manufacturing back to the US. For too long, state and federal govt regulations along with labor unions continued to raise the cost of doing business to the point that companies looked to offshore their manufacturing. Tour downtown Pittsburgh and look around at the neighborhoods that once housed thriving middle class communities. There is no reason we have to import Canadian and Chinese aluminum and steel. 3) the unknown (my thought) - there is a component to this that all the thinking heads simply don't know yet. How much revenue can be generated and how far can it go to eventually eliminate the IRS as I mentioned in my opening.

I agree with what you're saying here, but at least part of the reason for uncertainty is centered around how other countries are going to respond and also is this something that is over in a few weeks/months or are we looking at more of a longer term trade war scenario.
